I recently graduated with a B.A. in Environmental Earth Sciences and a minor in Creative Writing from Dartmouth College. I am currently a PhD student in Geology at UCSB. Geology, Ecology, and Writing are my particular areas of expertise, but I am also comfortable with introductory college level chemistry, physics, and mathematics. I have taught a variety of science curricula at organizations such as the Montshire Museum of Science (Norwich, VT), the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer programs, and Casper Mountain Science School in Wyoming. I also tutored a high school student for the Summer Enrichment at Dartmouth program in her Environmental Science, general Humanities/Writing, and SAT prep coursework. Through my Creative Writing workshop classes in college, I have gained experience critiquing grammar, sentence structure, essay organization, and many other aspects of written work.
I believe active learning is the most effective form of learning and try to incorporate hands on activities and self directed studies whenever possible/available. My overall educational approach is to be flexible and to tailor lessons to best mesh with the learning style and goals of a particular student.
