I was not a great student in junior high and high school, so I know what it's like to struggle. I was in the eighth-grade and didn't know my multiplication tables. After a tutor helped me over that obstacle, math class didn't seem quite so scary. Thanks to the support I received, I graduated from high school and became the first member of my family to receive a college degree.
I believe I can make a positive difference in your child's progress.
I am, first and foremost, a coach. I've worked with boys and girls and have coached Division I college and high school basketball, baseball, football and soccer.
During the six years I worked as a para in a local school system I taught math in small groups, co-taught algebra -- and learned how to make it understandable -- and also co-taught U.S. and world history classes.
My background as a former newspaper editor and author has also helped me successfully coach young writers.
I offer compassion, positive reinforcement and a sense of humor that students respond to. My first goal is to connect with your child on a personal level, because experience tells me that the student-teacher connection is the oil that lubricates the learning process.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you think I might be able to help. I'd be honored for the opportunity.
