I am an enthusiastic and patient teacher. I enjoy being prepared to instruct my students in an individualized way. My specialties include helping ESL and international students with their writing, reading, and speaking. I have access to many appropriate resources; my students do not have to provide materials if they are not currently enrolled in classes. I am most effective at working with adults, but I also have experiences working with children ages 12 and up.

As a current graduate student, I am working towards my M.S. in Teaching English as a Foreign Language at Southern New Hampshire University. In addition to being the Graduate Assistant for the Institute for Language Education, I am also the ESL Writing Tutor for the Learning Center at SNHU. I proactively provide writing tutoring and instruction for individual students and groups.

At an area learning center for adults, I am a ESOL Bridges instructor. The course is designed to help students prepare for the academic intensity of GED and college-level courses. While teaching reading and vocabulary-building skills, I also teach American culture, history, politics, and government, as well as pre-Ged math and science.

I graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. in Japanese and a minor in linguistics. I have worked as a teaching assistant and private tutor for the last 4 years.

Vocabulary

As an ESL instructor, writing tutor, and graduate student, I am confident and proficient in the vast expanse of English vocabulary. Through exercises, outside materials, and student-provided work, I can help students and professionals expand their vocabulary, both written and spoken.

Grammar

As a graduate student in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, I have spent the last two years studying the depths of English grammar. I am a competent, confident, and well-read tutor with a desire to make grammar approachable.

Reading

As a graduate student in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and an ESOL Bridges instructor, I have been focusing on teaching reading strategies and competences to students for the last 2 years. I have loved reading since I was a child; to share that love with ESL and international students has been a great pleasure!

Writing

As the graduate assistant for the Institute for Language Education at Southern New Hampshire University, I am also the International Student Writing Tutor. I have been trained to help ESL students with their writing, including short essays and research papers. For the last 2 years, I have been helping students with their grammar, structure, organization, APA/MLA citation, and style in their writing.

Japanese

I have been studying Japanese since 2007. I have a plethora of materials available to aid students who are beginning their Japanese journey. I am confident to teach hiragana, katakana, kanji, and basic grammar, up to the intermediate level.

Proofreading

I have been a writing tutor for many years, and I also offer my services as a proofreader for professionals, both native and non-native. I am confident and skilled in the use of formal grammar, organization, and APA style and citation, for publication and thesis work.

ESL/ESOL

I have an abundance of humor and patience with students, especially students learning another language. I have been in numerous immersion programs and I am sympathetic to the beginning language learner. I have learned a lot through my experiences and education, and I want to pass that learning on to other students.
