Right after graduating from college with a degree in Junior High Science teaching, I taught high school science for ten years; which included the following subject areas: Physical Science, General Science, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Human Anatomy and Physiology. I enjoyed lesson preparation and providing hands-on activities to help students remember topics. I then pursued a Science career, which provided me opportunities to perform training, create standard operating procedures, and experience new learning opportunities for myself. As I still had a passion for teaching, when I saw an opportunity to tutor at MCC, I gladly applied and was accepted. I became a CRLA certified tutor with positive evaluations. This opened up an opportunity to become an adjunct teacher at MCC in the subject of science. During this time, I also became interested in Teaching English as a second language. I received training, and have been a volunteer teacher for basic and beginner's level ESL. I am looking forward to working with any age student who wants to learn Science or basic ESL.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Science

It was my score on the Science portion of the ACT that helped me be accepted in college. It also confirmed my desire to pursue a career with a science emphasis.

Algebra 1

Even though I have not taught an Algebra class, the Science classes that I have taught depend on the methods used in Algebra. My most recent science class was at Metro Comm College where basic algebra skills were taught as part of the curriculum.

Algebra 2

Even though I have not taught an Algebra 2 class, the Science classes that I have taught depend on the methods used in Algebra 2. My most recent science class was at Metro Comm College where basic algebra skills were taught as part of the curriculum.

Astronomy

Astronomy was one of my favorite classes in college it was also my highest grade in Science, an A. I taught high school science courses and had units on Astronomy in Physics, and General Science.

Biology

I taught three years of High School Biology and tutor a few students at a local community college.

Chemistry

I taught high school chemistry for nine years using demonstrations and lab work to help clarify the concepts. I tutored several students in various college chemistry courses, and I received a certificate of appreciation for my efforts in tutoring.

Elementary Math

Even though my degree was in Junior High Science Education, I have had to go to the basics of math to help students understand many of the science concepts I taught.

Elementary Science

I was teacher for several years and I taught what is age appropriate material. I also recognize that students in the elementary level need more hands-on activities to help make the concepts concrete.

Microsoft Excel

Back in 2002 I took Excel Level 1 to improve my skills. Since, I worked in companies that always kept current with updates. I am now using Excel 2010 to maintain inventories and to populate data.

Physical Science

I have taught this course over the years of teaching and have tutored in its main subjects(Physics and Chemistry). This subject is one of my favorite because it highlights the more interesting aspects of science.

Physics

Physics is one of my favorite subjects, and one that I taught at the high school level for 9 years. I am able to bring it down to basic steps since this is what I did in my Physical Science courses. I used hands-on labs and performed many demonstrations to help students understand the concepts.

A few years ago, I began to teach a noncredit science class at a local community college. One of the lessons was how to solve word problems.
