I'm currently a student at Harvard University, studying linguistics and psychology, as well as Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. I am fluent in Spanish, am in Advanced Standing Arabic, Advanced Standing Russian, and speak an intermediate level of Polish.

I've been tutoring English for several years now, have had 6 years of ESL experience, and two years of SAT tutoring. I am currently the an ESL tutor at a center for Refugees, and am also on staff for younger ESL students at a Refugee Youth Enrichment Program. Additionally, I tutor for Harvard Student Agencies. This summer I have been working as the Education Coordinator at a Lebanese refugee camp teaching English. Teaching and tutoring is what I'm passionate about, and making difficult material accessible and comprehensible is what I'm all about. I plan on working in the field of education after graduating from Harvard.

My philosophy about teaching is that it has to be relatable. If a tutor is too cerebral and cold, then there's little incentive for the student to want to learn. What does this mean for my style of tutoring? It means that I like to be down-to-earth, to develop a sense of trust between tutees and myself, and to make the educational material as comprehensible as possible. I operate under the assumption that each individual student has a different learning style and different needs, and I try to cater to those differences as best as possible. This also means working with my tutee to develop reasonable goals with the given tutoring time.

I think education is an incredibly powerful asset that anyone can have, and I have seen it transform the lives of those around me, especially in my experience with refugees learning English. Knowledge is not power; rather, knowledge is empowerment. It creates pride, worth, and gives one a real sense of purpose. I hope that you'll consider me as a potential tutor.
