I am passionate about reading and writing and really enjoy working with students individually. I received my B.A. in English from Wesleyan University and my M.A. in Education from the University of Colorado. I have one year of experience teaching Composition, Introduction to Creative Writing, and Advanced Creative Writing: Poetry at the university level. Additionally, I have five years of experience teaching high school English, including freshman American Studies, junior American and Modern Literature and Composition, senior Multicultural Literature and Composition, Composition II, and Creative Writing. I also have experience teaching in the middle school classroom. While teaching, I sponsored a literary magazine and received training with the Colorado Writing Project. Prior to graduate school, I was a camp director and after school tutor with the YMCA; taught literature with a summer enrichment program in inner-city Cambridge, MA; worked with kids and adults with special needs; and acted as a college writing tutor.
I offer tutoring in reading (comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, etc.), writing (grammar, the 6 Traits of writing, revision, literary and historical analysis, persuasive and research writing, creative composition, etc.), thinking and study skills, and ACT test preparation. I have also taught and tutored students in writing college admissions essays, and would gladly walk your student through the process. I believe in creative, interactive, structured learning and look forward to working with you or your student!
