I have excellent skills and experience in English As A Second Language (ESL) and pronunciation skills, but I also can help organize thoughts for creative writing. I have alot of patience when the student is just learning the English language, especially foreign students. English is a "rule-breaking" language, but also complex. One on one learning eases one into it. I never laugh at pronunciation or mistakes.

I graduated from the University of Iowa's Writer's Workshop with an MFA in creative writing. My specialty is Poetry Writing, and to a lesser extent fiction, and have published poetry off and on for 25 years. Learning should never be intimidating, but enjoyable. Language appreciation makes learning so much easier.

Here are a few of my accomplishments and work experiences that are relevant:
-I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from UNL and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa (Writers' Workshop), both with High Distinction, GPA 3.97, internships in proof-reading, light transcription, and phlebotomy.
-Academy of American Poets Award: 1st Place-- Iowa 1990, periodical publishing in 5 countries.
-I have no particular style of tutoring, but have tutored mostly ESL students.
-The English language is not perfect, in that it breaks rules and has many exceptions, but it can be incredibly expressive and thoughtful.

Besides speaking Midwestern English for 40+ years, I have a BA and MFA in "creative writing" (fiction and poetry writing). I tutored Latino students in graduate school, and although grammar is important, I try to make the student comfortable in its usage and spoken venues. I try to make language enjoyable; then the learner remembers more. Ingles es facil. Learn your way to more opportunities!

I have a bachelor's degree in English from UNL, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa, enrolled in the well-known Writer's Workshop, where most of my professors were nationally known and published (Marvin Bell, Gerald Stern, and James Tate-- who was awarded the Pulitzer in Poetry).
I excelled in grammar and spelling in high school, and have a master's thesis (a book of poetry) published in the University of Iowa Library.
Grammar can be a stickler but is essential for expression. English grammar is inherently difficult because it is a combination of so many other languages with their own rules.
I try to keep my tutoring method pretty relaxed.
