Hi! My name is Katie. I currently graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in music and a minor in journalism. While at college, I tutored at the Center for Writers, where I learned a lot about tutoring in general, as well as a lot a lot about tutoring students who need help with writing projects. I currently teach private piano lessons (and have for 7 years) so I have a lot of experience working one-on-one with students of all ages. If you are looking for a creative, organized, motivated tutor in one or several of the areas of music, English, language, test-preparation, writing, or grammar, please let me know! If you're looking for help in a different area, please ask me and I will tell you how much experience I have in that area. Thanks for considering me!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Reading

ACT reading can be a challenge. Since I am a very fast reader, I excelled in that category when I took the ACT. However, whether you are a fast or slow reader, I can help you to find the important information to look for when reading the ACT passages. At first sight, the passages seem long and it's hard to concentrate on what is going on. The goal is to focus on the main message, without trying to pick up every detail. There will always be a few questions about the passage that are in-depth, but they will focus on one paragraph usually. Thus, you can always go back and reread that one paragraph to find the right answer.

Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop can be really fun if you get the knack for it. From putting in fancy and funny details or just making you look good, there are a ton of options when working with it. I took a university class at NDSU dedicated to Photoshop and InDesign, and thus I know a list of things that are important to look at in fixing up a picture and making it look its best. I also know a few tricks in special effects.

English

English was my favorite subject in high school. Although I ended up majoring and getting my degree in music, I loved English and writing so much that I got a minor in journalism. I also had a job at the NDSU Center for Writers, where I tutored undergraduate and graduate students in writing and English. Whether you need help with a few minor things, or a massive paper, I can help you out at any part of the process.

Piano

I have a B.S. in music from North Dakota State University. I took piano lessons for 14 years, I've been teaching for about 9 years. I currently teach 8 students.
