Hello,

I have taught for many years, including a stint as Cape Fear Academy's teacher of AP Lit and AP Language. I am an AP Reader (I grade student's AP exam essays). The material I work on is secret and I represent the highest level of graders.

However I have taught all levels of upper school English, from 9th to 12th grade Composition Dynamics--helping students with grammar and especially writing) to English 12.

As my student you can expect clear, direct and KIND instruction. As long as you do your work your SAT scores may well go up 100 points or your AP exam score from a 2 to a 4. I am very supportive and I try to make tutoring a positive occasion rather than a fearful, threatening experience. Your success and happiness is very important to me.

My success with students is the best part of what I do. I hope we can work together soon.

Sincerely,

Robert J. P., Ph.D.

Reading

I have been an outstanding reader all my life. I read for nuance and understand how to teach students see clues such as repetition, pathos, logos and ethos, tone, image patterns, diction, and the like.

SAT Reading

I've taught students how to prepare for the SAT. Students who have had me for English often had their SAT scores go up by 100 points.

I always worked on vocabulary both in context of texts studied and passages for the AP or SAT. I'm very strong on vocabulary.

Writing

I taught writing in college and high school. I've done intensive work on writing in AP English, IB English and English Comp.
