I am a dedicated and creative teacher who is very well qualified to provide students with the support, direction and motivation they need to succeed in Spanish
Throughout my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to teach Spanish to a diverse variety of students from Grades 1-12. During this time, I used my excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills that enabled me to interact with a wide range of students.
One of my greatest strengths is fostering a productive and exciting learning environment. To accomplish this, I deliver lessons in a creative and interesting way, which captures students' imagination and attention, and sparks their desire to learn. In addition, I incorporate hands-on activities whenever possible, to promote student involvement, and to reach all styles of learners and abilities. I believe it is very important to build strong working relationships between parents and students to maintain a positive and nurturing learning environment.
I have taught Spanish College Prep level II, Honors Level III, Honors Level IV (Literature
, Spanish Art
) Honors Level V (Short Stories, Novels and Film
I consistently received feedback from alumni attending college that they were handling the material very easily and that they had been very well prepared. Additional feedback indicated students were placing in to high-level courses, or that they had placed out completely of their college foreign language
Tutoring sessions usually focus on specific target areas the student needs to master, however because Spanish grammar
concepts build upon each other, I may determine that the student needs to take a step back in order to master a new concept. I will re teach that concept and give the student tools he or she may use at home to reinforce and strengthen any concept. I will provide the student with multiple tools that can be found on line to help with their Spanish when we are not together.
When reviewing work, I will highlight the errors and talk them through with the student, giving them a chance to re-work the material or talk through the process, so they may successfully complete the assignment on their own. I will repeatedly ask a student "why" they chose a particular word or conjugation in order to ensure they understand the concept and are just not guessing. I will help them learn how to work and memorize the numerous irregular verbs and their definitions by helping them compartmentalize them in to manageable groups with unique characteristics. It is my belief that vocabulary
and grammar are equally important, they go hand in hand, if you do not know what the word means how can you use it in a sentence.
I was raised in Venezuela and Puerto Rico. I do not have an accent and my Spanish is clear and easy to follow.
