Learning is something I do every day. Learning is fun, and once you know how to learn, all subjects are attainable. As an Architect, my ability to learn earns my paycheck. I learn my client's business so that I can design the building that will work for them. Sometimes, I struggle to understand my client, but it's not frustrating because given space and time, I am successful. And my client is rewarded with a building that will serve them well.
Using skills I have honed in the marketplace, I have helped fourth graders at Sunset Park Elementary grasp the principles of reading and math. I have helped college students understand the mathematics of structural design. And I can help an individual develop the skill of technical writing.
As an aside, I taught basic dog training (Volhard's Motivational Method) for five years with Best Friends Obedience in Lexington, KY. It was a beautiful thing!
I am a licensed architect in North Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia, and hold a certificate with the National Council of Architectural Review Boards. I have been self employed, specializing in the area of code compliance and research, for 16 years.
I have been working in AutoCAD since release 10 (ca 1988). I know how to manage complex drawings. I have published the booklet "100 AutoCAD commands you will like to use!" My understanding of technical drawing and drafting is excellent.
I am a self-taught guitar player. I began playing guitar at the age of 11. I was a member of a girl scout troop where singing around the campfire was a common practice. As I evolved, I started playing electric guitar, but now I have settled with a picking folk style on a classical guitar.
I may be self taught guitar, but I had four years of piano, and played cello in my high school orchestra for three years. I read music, and recently completed a self-study course, "Alfred's essentials of Music Theory" to brush up and expand my knowledge. I hope to apply to a Masters in Music program in the future.
I completed the Dale Carnegie course in 1996. I am a regular speaker at my church, as well as serving as liturgist. I enjoy speaking in public, and don't get to do enough of it!
Being comfortable and confident is one of the keys to successfully expressing your ideas as a public speaker. Organizing your thoughts is the first step to good public speaking. Good posture and eye contact are an aid. I can help you set yourself up for success!
