Hi, my name is Ashley. Growing up I had three younger siblings, two of which are currently in middle school. I grew up being a mentor and tutor for them throughout my younger years. To this day I am still helping them frequently with questions about homework and school projects. I graduated from North Carolina State University with a BA in Sociology in 2007. Over the years since, I have served my community not only through professional positions with Wake County DSS and New Hanover County DSS but also on a more personal level. I have volunteered as a reading mentor for children through the YMCA. In this role, I was responsible for helping children enhance their reading comprehension skills. I have also worked as a swim instructor for children of all ages. As an instructor I worked not only to develop their swimming techniques but also to help them gain confidence in themselves.
I recently relocated to Wilmington from Raleigh because my husband was hired as an associate at the law firm in Hampstead. I currently work for New Hanover Co. DSS but am looking for a way to continue working with children because it is a passion of mine. Because it is so important to me and because I enjoy it so much, I am also currently working to become a teacher. I am hoping to be able to make the career change within the next year so that I can begin doing what I feel I was meant to do.
