Hello fellow learners! My method of tutoring is to break down the material into easily understandable chunks that are relevant and interesting to you. After learning the basic pieces, we then tie everything together in light of a "bigger picture" that helps to make concepts easy to remember. I have tutored for over 5 years, and worked with students in high school through college. I work with individuals, or in small groups no larger than 3.
I achieved my Bachelor's in Biology with a concentration in Ecology and Evolution, and then jumped right into graduate school, literally. I moved down to NC from NY 3 days after graduation. I achieved my MAT in Secondary Science (Master's in the Art of Teaching) at UNC-Chapel Hill. Throughout both undergrad and grad school, I have tutored students in high school courses, pre-med programs, student-athletes, and students just filling their science credit for their major. In undergrad, I went through a formal tutor training program and received my Level 1 and 2 College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Certification. This program honed my skills in helping others learn their personal strengths in studying and test-taking, and how to build on those skills in all subjects.
Overall, I honestly believe that unless you enjoy something, it will be very difficult to invest your time and energy into being successful in it. As a tutor, I strive to make the subject matter relevant, engaging, and rigorous enough to keep it challenging. I have helped many students attain the success they sought in a course, and would love to help your student do the same!
