I have tutored privately since 1974 even when teaching high school or working in an office. I am able to tutor Math from Kindergarten through College level courses, Physics, SAT/ACT Prep, Study Skills and Computer applications. I have tutored for Sylvan and other tutoring services where I trained to tutor Reading, English, Vocabulary and Writing. My students almost always raise their grade at least 1 letter grade within a grading period and if retaking the SAT or ACT their score goes up at least 100 points - SAT or 5-10 pts. - ACT (but usually more). I am patient and I will find what teaching/learning method works for you or your student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have tutored for ACT test prep for many years. My students almost always improve their scores significantly.

ACT Science

I have tutored for the ACT and SAT for many years.

Algebra 1

I have taught and tutored Algebra I (on and off) for over 35 years.

Algebra 2

Taught or tutored Algebra II (on and off) for over 35 years.

ASVAB

I have worked with many adults taking various tests for certification or licenses. It would be an honor to help you pass your ASVAB to enter the military.

Elementary (K-6th)

I was certified by training and experience to tutor Math and Reading to Beginning Readers through High Schoolers by a national tutoring service. My teaching certificate is for grades 7-12; but, I have tutored all ages since 1974. I use strategies that work for the individual that I tutor; whether it is practice with worksheets or flashcards, study skills, test taking skills or capitalizing on how they learn (visually, auditory or physically). It is sometimes a challenge to find what works for a particular student especially if they are ADHD or Autistic or just not motivated. However, I like challenges and have been very successful in helping my students raise their grades and do better on final exams.

Elementary Math

Certified by a Learning Center.

GED

I am a former high school math teacher and experienced tutor.

Geometry

Former High School Math Teacher

Linear Algebra

I have tutored Linear Algebra several times. I tutor to the individual needs, so if my student knows how to do determinants but not sure about matrices, then I only teach matrices. If they do not quite understand 3D space, then I will help them create a model so they can visualize it better. I use whatever will help my student to learn the subject.

Logic

I have tutored Logic when it was included in an advanced course. Although I took Logic in college, I have not tutored it as a stand-alone subject. Since logic is used in proving theorems, I have tutored it many times. I tutor to the individual needs, so if my student knows how to do truth tables but does not know how to make a valid argument, then I only teach making the argument. I use whatever will help my student to learn the subject.

Microsoft Excel

I am a former instructor of Microsoft Programs at a community college.

Microsoft Outlook

I have used MS Outlook since 1998. I have taught it to businessmen and women from 1998 to 2005. It is a great tool to organize email, tasks, calendar, notes, contacts, and is now linked to social media. I really like the reminder option on tasks and appointments, it will just pop-up on your screen to remind you to do something. Also, the collaboration features are helpful for those on a network.

Microsoft Windows

Have used all versions of Windows. I have taught classes for Continuing Ed. at a community college from 1998 to 2003. I can teach how to change settings to customize it and use its accessories to keep a computer clean and running smoothly.

Prealgebra

As a former high school math teacher and a long time tutor I am certain I can tutor your student in Pre-Algebra to prepare for Algebra I.

Precalculus

I am a former high school Math teacher. I tutored for over 30 years. My students almost always improve grades and test scores with my tutelage.

Reading

Trained in Reading and Study Skills at a national Learning Center.

SAT Math

Former high school math teacher and longtime math tutor. Certified by a national tutoring service to tutor for SAT Math and Reading and have also taught the writing portion.

SAT Reading

Even though I was a High School Math teacher, I have tutored longer than I taught. I have tutored for the SAT in Math, Reading and Writing for several years.

SAT Writing

Even though I was a High School Math teacher, I have tutored longer than I taught. I have tutored for the SAT in Math, Reading and Writing for several years.

Study Skills

Have tutored and taught Study Skills since 1981. I am certified by a national tutoring service. I teach the student what they need as an individual rather than just a set of rules. With guidance, we discover their best way and best times to study and put a plan in action to use those times and ways to their advantage. I show: different ways to take notes, depending on the subject and how the course is taught; test taking strategies; how to conquer fear of failure; how to overcome timed test anxiety; how to use the elimination process; how to keep track of grades so they know what they are making; and how to organize their study materials and keep up with assignments and projects.

Since the distance traveled is a function of the speed and time, then it is the distance formula as a function.   The distance formula is d = rt So written as a function it would be          f(t) = 3t where  f(t) = d and the r is...

Meena's answer is correct, but usually in math books the 90o angle is at "C" and so the hypotenuse is "c".  The formula becomes a2 + b2 = c2.   To answer your question about what it is, in common terms, it is a way to find the length of one leg of a right...

The first step is to factor out any common factors.   So, I see a single factor of x that is in common in all terms.   So that makes it x(3x2 -10x + 70).   Now to determine if the trinomial in parentheses is factorable you may try this method, called the British...
