I am a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. I have a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and a bachelor of science degree in political science/communications. I am currently working full-time on my master's degree in management and would like to supplement my income by tutoring students. I have extensive knowledge in training adults and working with children through church and work. I can tutor students in social studies, English, history and communications which includes reading, writing, and vocabulary. I can also help students prepare for specialized tests in the above subject areas.
I am a native of Brunswick County, NC. My only child is teaching English and classroom skills to Korean teachers and other foreign nationals in South Korea. I am single and can work varied hours. I can tutor during school hours and evenings if necessary. I like to tutor students in the public library, on college campuses, churches or other public places. In certain instances I will tutor in a home provided that a parent is present during the tutoring session. I am 49 years old. I work best with young students older than five, middle school, high school and college age students. I can provide work references and a resume if needed.
I have also worked as a Director of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs at Brunswick Community College in Supply, NC from 1997 to 2000, so I have experience advising and helping students in a college setting. I have also tutored students in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. My tutoring methods include defining the needs of the students, creating an atmosphere where the student feels comfortable expressing their needs and concerns. I take the time to answer all questions and pace my tutoring around the individual needs of the individual student. Students also learn differently, so I try to find the method that works best for each individual.
