I taught history in the Wolcott, Connecticut public schools for 35 years, spending most of my career on the high school level. After retiring in 2006, I tutored home-bound students before moving to North Carolina in 2007. Since establishing residence here I have been a substitute teacher in the Wake County public schools. During my career I have taught all high school grades and levels, establishing the Advanced Placement United States History program in my high school and teaching that course for 14 years. I have always approached the classroom and my responsibilities as an instructor on the simple premise that any student can be successful given the opportunity and incentive to learn. The subject of history has been my passion since I was a student and my goal has consistently been to share that enthusiasm with my students. As much as the student will need to understand the subject material, I feel that it is most important that the skills of writing, research, and problem solving be emphasized through any course work. Throughout my career I have found that the best part of teaching is working with young people and playing a small part in their preparation for the future.
