I first started tutoring students in my 11th grade year. I had an outstanding opportunity to tutor under Walt Disney Teacher Ron Clark, in his fifth grade classroom in Aurora, NC. From there I started tutoring children in my church and enjoyed every bit of it. I've taught in the public school -grades Kindergarten, first, second, third, and fifth. I had the opportunity to teach on different levels in whole group, small group, and one on one. It was a great experience to teach children of different abilities and on different levels. I found it most beneficial to teach students in small group and one on one. I was better able to pinpoint what the student was struggling with and what instruction I needed to give.
I now work in a Child Development Center with children ages 1-5. This has been a great experience because I have been able to see students develop at younger ages than I usually see. I have been able to help More at Four Teachers and students to prepare for the next level of school-Kindergarten. I've enjoyed motivating, encouraging and working with students one on one reviewing different things they have learned in the classroom and that they will need for the next year. I've taught all the basic subjects - reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, but I love teaching Reading and English. I struggled with comprehension when I was in elementary school so now I have grown to love it. Being able to read and understand what you read is important and gives you the opportunity to read whatever you like. I also like working with numbers!
