My name is Erin and I can't wait to get to know you or your student!
I hold a Master's degree from New York University and have a B.A. in Psychology from Guilford College.
I value creativity and that is evident in my approach to tutoring as I vary the ways that I help my students understand the information they are trying to learn.
I am interested in what learning style you or your student will benefit from the most-- even if that means mixing and matching my approach in a single lesson.
I have extensive experience in public speaking, presentations and memorization techniques as well as time management and study skills that are useful in any subject at any level of schooling.
I have tutored at the K-6 and College level for general studying, writing improvement, for specific course assignments and for SAT, ACT, PSAT, GRE preparation. My tutoring sessions are goal oriented and focus on creating a habit of fully understanding lessons and concepts in order to set up strong foundations for present goals and future studies. My tutoring services include meeting with parents and/or student in order discuss goals and to determine the particular approach that would best suit the needs of the student and creating learning plans, assessments and activities that engage students with the subject or project that they are working on.
My approach to tutoring focuses on helping students to feel confident about their strengths and helping them to feel more confident about actively pursuing better understanding of subjects and concepts that they need to understand more fully.
I work as a Career Counselor and am skilled in resume and cover letter writing, professionalism in the classroom and workplace, professional communication, public speaking, mind management and interview skills. I have worked at a community college teaching these subjects for one year and one month.
I have two years' experience as a Career Advisor at the College Level. My expertise includes: applying for jobs, writing resumes, cover letters, conducting mock interviews, teaching mind management and networking skills and executing programming related to finding a job. I hold a Master's degree from New York University and have a B.A. in Psychology from Guilford College.
I have two years of experience in tutoring at the K-6 level in reading comprehension and language arts, social studies, science, math and writing. I tutor with a hands on approach using visual aids, crafts and games to reinforce ideas from the classroom and the textbook. Because this level of education is fundamental in setting students up for success in the future, I take the time to make sure that students I tutor are able understand and engage with the concepts that they are learning. By pulling in practical, real-world examples that relate to the skills and information they are learning, I aim to help integrate the lessons students learn in grades K-6 in a way that is memorable and useful in everyday life.

I I have had 10 years of musical experience including participation in band, orchestra and choral programs in K-12 school programs as well as extracurricular musical programs. I have been trained to understand concepts relating to rhythm, pitch, tone and tempo as needed to play a musical instrument, speak in rhythm, sing a piece of music, and read phrases of music. In teaching the fundamentals of understanding how music is composed and understood, my lessons are adaptable to fit the needs of any student who wants to learn how to read music, needs help learning or perfecting their abilities to play a musical instrument, sing or simply understand the basics of music performance and composition.
I have extensive public speaking experience which includes but is not limited to: writing speeches, composing and executing presentations, learning strategies to overcome stage fright and building the confidence of a speaker in order to address a group or audience. I have presented and spoken in public at the high school, college and graduate level and have presented at several professional conferences as well. I find that it is important to assess a student's strengths in the area and use those to create a specific voice or style that helps make speaking in public less intimidating and more enjoyable. It is also useful to discuss memorable and enjoyable speeches and presentations that the student has witnessed in order to to analyze successful strategies of public speaking that they can incorporate into their own presentations and speeches.
