Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am a Behavior Support Teacher for a large, diverse public high school. I work with special education students who exhibit emotional and behavioral challenges that negatively affect their academic performance. Many of my students have been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD. I collaborate with students, parents, educators, and support services to develop plans that enable the student to remain productive in the academic environment. Many times, the plans developed at school are tied into plans at home in order to provide the student with consistency.

Students who have been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD required highly structured learning environments, both in the school setting and at home and with tutors, with clear expectations. I help students develop plans that will enable them to appropriately express themselves in the learning environment, and thereby increase their academic success.

I am certified in special education and Pre-K through sixth grade. I have master's degrees in psychology and special education/childhood education.

Aspergers

I am a behavior and autism support teacher for a large public school system. I work with special education students with autism/Aspergers who need support in the areas of social skills, organizational skills, and study skills. I run social skills groups for students with Aspergers who are in the regular classroom setting, but need some extra support in developing the social and communication skills necessary day to day functioning, both in school and out.
