Hi there! My name is Alejandra, and I've been working as a tutor for high school and college students for the last eight years. I graduated from Yale with Honors in English Literature
in 2004, worked at a magazine for couple of years, then discovered how much I love tutoring. I feel that ALL students benefit from the one-one-one focused attention of a tutor, whether they are struggling academically or not. I am here to lend my total academic support.
I provide tutoring sessions tailored to the students' individual needs. While my specialty is English (literary analysis & writing
skills), I also love to tutor History
(American & World), and Spanish
. While these subjects represent my core strengths, I enjoy teaching any subject - even science
, and French
- as long as we have the textbook handy. I embed lessons about study skills
in every session.
I also have many years of experience working with students as they prepare for the daunting days of standardized tests, including the ACT
. Finally, I offer in-depth college counseling
and college essay
brainstorming, composition guidance, and essay editing
When I'm not working with students, I am a musician and songwriter, I play guitar
, and sing, and these are also areas in which I can instruct your student. I've played in touring bands for years, and recorded several rock n' roll albums. My favorite bands of all time are The Beatles, The Smiths, and Bob Dylan. Perhaps these are the typical favorite bands of an English major.
Students respond well to my friendly, relaxed approach. I see myself as a mentor to many of my students.
I look forward to working with you or your student!

An effective strategy for digging into these passages with the gusto required for high scoring is to underline...
A tip I often give my students who are studying Spanish is to watch English-language DVDs with the Spanish subtitles on. It's probably best to start with a movie or show you have seen before and with which you are familiar with the basic plot and dialogue.
As you watch the movie or show (in English), read the subtitles as you go. Stop the DVD or go back and take notes about the way the English...
