I am a retired teacher with thirty-seven years of teaching experience. I possess a Master of Arts Degree in Reading
Specialization from Kean University of New Jersey as well as certifications for Reading Specialist, Teacher of the Handicapped, and Elementary School Teacher. I am skilled in diagnosis and remediation of individual learning needs.
My professional education started at Elizabeth City State University. While attending Elizabeth City State University, I was inducted into Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society and Kapppa Delta Pi, an Honor Society in Education. I was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities during my Junior and Senior Years. I graduated, with honor, from Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor of Science

. I did further study at Fayetteville State University, Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, and Jersey City State College. In 1988, I graduated from Kean University of New Jersey with a Master of Arts Degree in Reading Specialization. While studying at Kean University of New Jersey, I was again inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, an Honor Society in Education, at the graduate level.
As an educator, I taught in various grade levels and educational positions. I taught in Newark, New Jersey; Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Jersey City, New Jersey. While living in Germany, I taught high school math
to military personnel who were completing their high school education. I served as a Reading Specialist at Whitney M. Young, Jr. School (PS #15) in Jersey City, New Jersey. In 1992, I returned to Hertford, North Carolina, where I taught at Central School in Winfall, NC, and Hertford Grammar
School in Hertford, NC. The highlight of my career was being honored as Teacher of the Year for Hertford Grammar School and as Teacher of the Year for Perquimans County Schools for the 2002-2003 school year.
