Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have tutored a previous client who had Aspergers and ADD. Within three months, I had him achieving the complete online course of Algebra 1, in which he received an A for the class.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra 1 in different schools for over 10 years. This is such an important subject in school, because it establishes the groundwork for all of the mathematics courses which follow it. If you need a tutor for Algebra 1, then I know that I can be the best tutor for you.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a key course for students considering college entrance. The course covers many of the applications of the sciences offered in the high school curriculum. It is essential for students to get a thorough understanding of this subject as they prepare for the SAT's and acceptance to the college of their choice. If you need a tutor, then I am there for you.

American History

I double majored at Lynchburg College and took 4 classes in American History. I taught for one year at a private school, which also included Geography, Civics, and European History. If you select me to be your tutor, then I will provide the student with a thorough background in U.S. History. This will include studies of all the great Presidents of our Nation and their contributions.

Aspergers

I have thirty years experience teaching secondary Mathematics in both Public and Private schools. I currently have a student with Aspergers and I also have some experience with autistic children at a sleep-away camp and from previous classes. These students need additional attention and care during instructional phases during the day, while allowing some flexibility with distractions as the child encounters these. I often incorporate the child's personal interests with the math I teach. Connections and growth soon follow.

ASVAB

I have 30 years of teaching experience with both private and public high schools. During my tenure, I have prepared students for SAT and GRE test preparations. I also provide my clients with tips on how to take tests and how to use their time effectively. I know that I can help prepare you to be successful on your testing experience.

Chess

I was President of my Chess Club while at Sidwell Friends High School, have participated in a Chess Tournament in Washington D.C., and I have moderated Chess Clubs for more than five years at different schools. If you need a tutor to help you improve your game, then I will be glad to provide my insights.

Dyslexia

I do not have formal training with dyslexic students. I do have experience tutoring one-on-one with patience and care for my clients. My background is mostly with Mathematics, but I have 30 years of teaching experience at the High School and Middle School levels. I possess a Master's Degree in Mathematics Education from The University of Virginia, and I have three years of tutoring experience from the states of Virginia and North Carolina.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have more than 25 years of experience teaching High School and Middle School Mathematics and History. Children need an experienced tutor to guide them and prepare them for their subjects in school. If you need a tutor, then I am the person you need to help your child.

Elementary Math

I have taught all levels of Mathematics up through Pre-Calculus. My expertise lies in Algebra and Geometry, but the fundamentals of Mathematics are essential to achieving success at the high school level. I will definitely provide clients with excellent preparations in topics of Fractions, Percents, and Number Sense.

GED

I have been a mathematics teacher for 30 years. I also have experience teaching test-taking tips to students working on their SATs and GEDs. I know that I can help you prepare for the GED.

Geometry

Geometry is my favorite subject. I have taught this for 30 years. It prepares the student with thinking skills and organization which he/she will need in college. It represents almost 40% of the SAT's. If you need a tutor, then I am the best candidate for the job.

GRE

I have 30 years of teaching experience with a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education. I have been a tutor for WyzAnt.com; The Huntington Learning Center of Fairfax, Va; and The A+ Tutoring Service in Goldsboro, NC. My specialty is preparing students for examinations like the SAT and the GRE.

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra is an important subject for students who struggle with Mathematics. It is a bridge between Middle School and High School and can be an important step for a child who needs to learn the importance of Mathematics. If you hire me as your tutor, then I will help bridge that gap and start a successful future.

PSAT

I already have certification in SAT preparations. I have a background in providing assistance with test preparations, specifically with the Huntington Learning Center from Fairfax, Virginia. I hope to apply my experience to help students prepare for this important testing format, especially since it can determine qualifying for scholarship programs to colleges in the country.

SAT Math

SAT preparation can be exhausting and frustrating for the student who is not prepared. A good tutor can help guide and instruct the student on how to take this important test and be successful in the process. I know that I can be that tutor for you and provide you with a successful approach to a "winning score" !

Study Skills

I have 30 years experience teaching students aged 12-23 years. During that interim, I have trained students on how to take tests and prepare for examinations in the fields of Mathematics and History. I have tutored at Huntington Learning Center in Fairfax, Va., where we specifically trained students on how to take the SAT examinations, using the Princeton Review Approach.

Tennis

I was Varsity Tennis for all four years at Sidwell Friends High School in Washington D.C. I have headed a tennis program in the Pocanos Mts. in P.A. as well as coached in a Berkshire Mts. resort. My experience will help guide you to using winning strategies in your game.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is the mathematics course that examines angles in triangles and formulates strategies on solving more difficult equations than the preceding courses of Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. Students who struggle with this subject will need someone to help organize them and prepare them for the difficulty of this course. If you select me as your tutor, I will provide the necessary instruction needed for success.

Nish,  I would suggest that you first ask you math teacher what resources might be available.  You could start at the library and get the latest versions of the SAT or whatever testing format you plan to take.  Next, I would suggest practicing one of the sample tests to see if...

Valerie, I couldn't help but notice that someone "voted" Carol down on this solution she gave you.  She was right on this problem, so I'm not sure why she was so..."dissed" (?)   If you line-up the variable parts on one side and the constant values on the other...
