I am a dedicated educator who has worked in the field for seventeen years now. I hold a Master's degree from Virginia Tech and a Virginia Teaching Credential, ESOL, Prek-12. I've had a variety of experiences that include teaching overseas, doing teacher training for other educators, developing program models in schools, delivering differentiated instruction, and doing intensive coaching for a variety of standardized assessments.
I specialize in reading, language arts, linguistic principles as well as having co taught subjects like US History, Civics, Pre-Algebra, and Earth Science. In addition, I have done SAT test preparation and Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL) preparation as well as review for state school assessments. I have developed many effective study strategies for students from personal teaching reflection and using good practices.
I believe all students can succeed with proper instruction and motivation. I think learning happens when it is purposeful, relevant to daily life, and is engages students. It should teach not only knowledge but also critical thinking skills. Students should also have the opportunity to learn through technology because they are so familiar with it today. I think learning is important to social and personal development, and I am happy to be an educator, knowing I can help students grow in their academic lives.
