Adobe Photoshop

In 1995, I started to see the changing face of photography from film to digital. So I returned to school to pursue a degree in digital imaging and graphic design. I started learning how to use Adobe Photoshop with version 3.0, and have been hooked ever since. I currently use version CS5 professionally, with twelve years experience as a digital artist and graphic designer. I graduated form Columbia College of Chicago (3.75 GPA, honors), where I became a teacher's assistant in the photography department's digital imaging lab, helping students learn Adobe Photoshop, use film and print scanners and large scale digital printers.

In 1999, I joined Ibid Photo, a stock photography agency in Chicago where I was in charge of operating professional film scanning equipment to create digital artwork for more than three hundred professional photographers. At Ibid Photo, my responsibilities included scanning contributing stock photographer’s negatives and prints to pre-press standards, digital retouching and color correction. The end result of my work appeared in the Ibid Stock photography catalog, website and in national and international print advertising.

In 2002, I joined Crate and Barrel in Chicago, where I managed photography production for the company's retail websites and catalog. My responsibilities included creative digital manipulation and color correction of product photography, web site design, and establishing a color-calibrated workflow between an internal digital photography studio and graphics production department workstations.

Currently, I work for Bassett Furniture Industries as a Photographer and Production Manager, where I am responsible for all photographic content for printed retail catalogs and the company retail website. I oversee production at a large photography studio, and get to work with state of the art digital cameras and editing software. I am also responsible for the look and quality of all printed catalogs and regularly attend press checks on site at commercial printers.

Photography

I started working in a black and white darkroom at the age of twelve, and have never given up the habit. I began shooting professional portraits for musicians and actors in between semesters at college and eventually made it my full-time profession.

Most of my learning happened on the job, at photography studios in Chicago as a studio assistant. I learned the fundamentals of film exposure, studio lighting, and master techniques in printing.

I worked as a professional photographer in Chicago photographing models, actors, and musicians for fashion portfolios and publicity shots.
I was responsible for all photography, film and print processing and studio operations.

Currently, most of the professional work relies on the use of digital cameras. I shoot with Canon professional SLR’s and use Phase One Capture One and Adobe Photoshop to manage and edit my work. I also still maintain a black and white darkroom, where I print medium and large format fine art photography.

Currently, I work for Bassett Furniture Industries where I am responsible for all product photography. I manage the catalog workflow at a large photography studio and also have a hands-on role photographing product for the company’s retail catalogs and web site.
