I am Candice and I believe that I am an exceptionally good tutor.
I graduated from Appalachian State University in May 2012 with a bachelor's in English with the Creative Writing concentration. I have done a of sort tutoring through one of my creative writing classes called "Creative Writing for Kids." I worked with one child through the semester and led a session with the kids with another girl on developing the characters. I have even volunteered at my local public library in the children's session and even participated in the Summer Reading Program. This will be my first time working with WyzAnt.
I have been writing since I was in junior high and my skills of top of the line and improving. One thing that I am a stickler for is grammar. I will take the time to help the student out with this little corner of writing. (I have read one too many text-like posts on the internet. It does not sit well with me on lack of grammar I have seen.) My main focus, however, is the writing itself. I have many ideas on helping the student exercise their creativity in words on the computer screen or paper.
I would prefer to work with one student per session because I connect better with them to make progress. My targets will be finding inspiration to write around them in everything around them and editing (ex. adding details and of course, grammar.)
Please feel free to contact me whenever the opportunity arises. I will be waiting for your word.
I personally have ADD so I know what it is like. I may not be perfect with my condition, but I can be patient enough with a student that has the same condition. I can work with them one step at a time to help them focus on their school work. I have worked with enough children to know what to do with one who has ADD/ADHD.
I have worked with Photoshop for my classes. I made a movie poster, a menu, and even a book cover for one of my unpublished novels-- all for a class. As a result, I have gained the necessary skills to work with Photoshop. I will be happy to help out any students in need with it.
I have worked with Dreamweaver in college by making a web site in one of my classes. Despite constantly using Microsoft Frontpage, I can handle Dreamweaver with ease on web pages. I will be happy to work any students through this process.
In college, I developed a bit of a taste for film. I learned how to operate the basic elements of film. I shot four short films for two classes as a result. I can also use a microphone with the camera. I even know a little bit about the history of film making. I can happily work with any film students in this area.
As a writer, you need to have good grammar to help sell your idea. I have seen too many posts on the internet with poor grammar and it's rather bleak. I am one of those people who are welling to help a student not write like a text message, because good grammar equals a better shot of getting ahead in life.
I have worked on a web site myself since the year 2000. I work on it every day, in fact. Because of this, I can guide myself around html pretty smoothly. I have even created a few pages with just using html code and notepad.
I have used Windows ever since I was a child in the 90s. I understand the basics of most Windows operating systems. Because I use Windows every day, I know my way around it pretty well. I am pretty capable of showing somebody how to function with it for daily use. I have used all the way from early Windows to Windows 7. I currently work with Windows Vista, but I can use 7 and XP with no problems.
I have worked with Microsoft Word for several years. In fact, I use it to write my stories and essays. I have learned the ins and outs of the whole process and would be happy to help out with those in need for Word.
I took photography class while I was in Appalachian state university. I have gotten better with photography, and taken many pictures since then. My best work would be with a digital camera. I believe that I can navigate through the basics of photography.
As a writer, proofreading is important for the whole process. You need it to point out your mistakes and improve your writing skills. This is where I come in. I will be happy to help the student proofread their work to make their writing skills even better.
I have worked with FinalCut Pro for my "Beginning Video" and "Sight and Sound" classes for my final semester at Appalachian State University. I have worked with Windows Movie Maker as well. Of the two, FinalCut gave me better result for my final movie in my "Beginning Video" class and a stop-action film for my "Sight and Sound" class. Both can be found on YouTube.
As a writer, it is important to expand one's vocabulary. I utilize vocabulary on a daily basis to improve my own writing skills. I believe that using the same words repeatedly in a piece of composition makes it sound dull and meaningless. This is where I would come in.
I mostly work in creative writing. (My dream career is to be a writer.) My top area is fictional stories and my secondary area would be poetry. I am flexible with essays when the need for them arises. My main goal will be to help get the student inspiration for their writing. Along the way, I plan to work with them on the elements of a story such as character, plot, setting, etc. I will even take the time to work with the student on grammar.
