Hello! I am a former Fulbright English Lecturer at Karadeniz Technical University in Turkey and a current graduate student in political science at Duke University, specializing in the tutoring of English (test prep, reading, writing, literature, and ESL) and politics/government (American politics, international relations, comparative politics, and political theory). I also enjoy teaching math, because I have come to love it and use it at the graduate level, even though it did not come naturally to me. And because we all sometimes need a change of pace, I am always thrilled to work with students in areas of the performing arts (theatre, speech, and debate), beginning Turkish, and soccer--all passions of mine outside the classroom.
There is nothing that I enjoy more than helping someone to an "Ah ha!" moment. In my view, tutoring is a snapshot of the very best part of teaching for students and for teachers alike: one-on-one interaction and personalized help. I am energetic and enthusiastic, and I love to use humor in my approach to teaching. I find that a relaxed environment built on mutual understanding and teamwork between student and tutor builds a strong foundation for high levels of performance. While I expect 100% from my students, I also expect 100% from myself, and I am dedicated to tailoring sessions to your needs. No two students learn exactly alike!
I am happy to travel to whatever location is most convenient for you, and I have availability throughout the week and on weekends.
I look forward to helping you find your "Ah ha!"
