I'm Catherine. I am British and I was born and went to school in Switzerland, so I am fluent in both French and English. I'm enthusiastic about teaching people of all ages. I have a PhD in biological sciences and worked as a research scientist for 6 years. I have studied math extensively and have strong English skills. I currently work as a part-time editor for a scientific editing company. I'm a stay at home mom with two young children, and I enjoy reading, gardening, music (I play the piano and the viola) and studying languages (I am currently learning Spanish). I became a tutor because I enjoy teaching people.
I am patient and believe an important aspect of tutoring is to identify why students are having difficulties in a particular area in order to work towards a better understanding of the material (rather than only memorization). This enables the student to gain a deeper understanding of the material, and improves their ability to learn subsequent material. It is not only teaching the material that is important, but teaching the student how to learn effectively for themselves.
