I have taught 6th grade through 12th grade English Language Arts, Journalism, Reading Improvement and SAT/ACT Test Prep classes. I also tutor ESOL students and business people who must take the TOEIC and TOEFL tests for college or career advancement. I've been teaching a while... A long while... 15 years... BUT... It doesn't seem like a long time at all. I love teaching. I love helping people of all ages become better readers and writers of the English language. American History

I team teach American/North Carolina history with the Social Studies teacher on my team. My English class is infused with historical fiction, biographies and literature that coincide with the time period and issues students are studying in their social studies class.

SAT Reading

I taught an SAT preparation class for 4 years at a large inner city high school. I covered all parts of the SAT test experience, including test taking strategies. 91% of all students who took my class raised their score on all parts of the test.

Cramming for this test won't help! You need an extended preparation program to help develop vocabulary and reading/writing skills. Let me whip you into shape for the SAT.

TOEFL

I have 16 years of classroom experience working with LEP and ESL/ESOL students. I currently work as a district literacy coordinator which requires a great deal of work with ESL/ESOL/LEP curriculum, materials, and teachers. I also have experience hosting and tutoring exchange students and teachers who were preparing to take the TOEFL or TOEIC. Extensive research and preparation surrounding the format and content of these tests makes my tutoring focused and results driven.

ACT Reading

I have experience teaching ACT preparation classes. 94% of all students who took my class raised their score on all parts of the test.

For the ACT reading test you have to increase your reading speed, comprehension, and analysis... all at the same time. You can't do this in one cramming session the night before the ACT... you have to plan ahead and work hard to ace the ACT. Let me help you in one-on-one tutoring sessions that include homework so you can really get your ACT game on.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified to teach ELA grade 6-12 in NY, TX, and NC. I have 6 years of experience tutoring students K-4 privately. I was the English department chair for a middle school that included grades 5-8, where I was responsible for supervising and evaluating curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Study Skills

As a teacher for 15 years, I have worked with students everyday to find and/or develop study habits and methods that work best with their individual learning style to maximize their strengths and compensate for their weaknesses. Every year I have worked as an academic advisor to small groups of students who need help with organization and work habits.

ESL/ESOL

Every year I have taught English, Ihave had ESL/ESOL students in my classroom. I have had to develop materials and strategies to use with these students in my normal classroom. Additionally, I have hosted exchange sutdents from 5 different countries in my own home.I also provide tutoring to students and adults preparing for the TOEIC and TOEFL tests for college or careere advancement.

Public Speaking

As a middle and high school teacher, I have to help students create, prepare, and deliver presentations and speeches all the time. I also worked as an executive educator for a very large national insurance company where I helped employees, particularly executives and marketing VIP's, perfect their presentation and pitch skills.

Praxis

I have taken and passed several Praxis I & II tests. In addition, I use the materials provided on the ETS website for Praxis preparation to conduct Praxis Bootcamps for local teacher candidates.

Regents

I taught for 6 years in New York State. Each year I was required to assist High School English teachers grade the extended responses for the Regents exams. I am very familiar with the rubrics used to evaluate this part of the Regents exams. I was also a middle school department chair, responsible for aligning curriculum, instructiona and local assessments that would prepare students for high school, including the Regents exams.

TAKS

I taught in Texas for 6 years as a 10th and 11th grade Language Arts teacher. 4 of those 6 years, I had 100% of my students (at an inner city Houston school) pass the TAKS. I had to prepare my students for the TAKS test each year. My school district also hired me to prepare and present workshops for teachers throughout the district on developing student skills for the TAKS test and beyond.

If you do not use the entire package, we will simply deduct what you did spend on tutoring from your original purchase price and give you a refund. Discount packages start as low as $190.
