I am a photographer and graphic illustrator based in Charlotte. I have 8 years of experience with photography, and 3 years of experience in graphic design / graphic illustration. By graphic illustration, I mean creating logos, maps, art, etc. in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. To compliment photography, I am proficient at Adobe Lightroom.
I embrace challenges. They intrigue me, keep me on my toes, and make me a wiser and more productive person. In 2010 I left my "desk job" in finance, and sold my car for a one-way plane ticket to New Zealand. I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone, improve my photographic skills, and experience something remarkable. I left with a bag, my camera, and a smile. What ensued was an absolutely amazing journey. A year later I returned home a changed person, for the better. At the time I didn't realize it, but I was making big steps toward my dream to be a digital artist.
Since that trip I have laid the foundation for a fine-art photography and graphic illustration company in Charlotte. But it's not all about me. In my opinion, a person can grow as a professional as well as a person by giving back. Spreading my knowledge to others is something that I enjoy and value. That is what led me here.
Apart from being a visual artist, I am also heavily involved with endurance sports. In the past 7 years, I have worked for a well-respected triathlon store called TrySports, encountered injuries of my own that were learning experiences, and developed life-long friendships with amazing athletes who help each other and share advice. These experiences have fostered a firm understanding of proper nutrition, race strategy, running/cycling form, training planning, and injury prevention. Through it all, the thing that gives me the most joy is to share what I have learned with others and to forever change another person's lifestyle for the better.
Thank you for considering me as a tutor and I look forward to meeting you,

My time with Glenn was money well spent. We covered everything I had wanted to cover and more. Glenn is very professional, and explained things in a way that made perfect sense. He is a natural teacher. I would definitely recommend Glenn to anyone who needs assistance with, photography in general, Lightroom, and Photoshop.
Glenn arrived on time, was well prepared with lesson plan that addressed the issues and concepts fundamental to my overall learning experience. He was patient, presented well, and responded to questions extremely well. He was flexible and patient. He was willing to branch off into areas that were related to my long term learning goals but not necessarily relevant to the lesson in the current session. He was knowledgeable and profession. He was also personable and quite friendly.
Overall, I highly recommend this instructor. He will be helping to achieve my long term learning goals.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For years I was frustrated in being unfamiliar with adding white borders, text, and other graphics to a photo. Adobe illustrator, as hard as it was to get used to, was my answer. Toying with different controls and watching countless educational videos led me to become extremely proficient with illustrator. The best part for me was that it grew from being just a supportive tool for photography into being a dynamic graphic design software that lets me create gorgeous graphic art that has nothing to do with photography.
Being a photographer for years doesn't just mean pressing the shutter button. Nearly all cases require at least some editing, and I have used adobe Lightroom to do this for 4 years. I have an incredibly in-depth knowledge of light room's tools for generating the perfect photo.
After taking a few fascinating classes in college on finance and investment management, I decided to get a job in finance. From 2007-2010 I worked as an analyst for a financial information company called Mergent, Inc. During this time I developed an in depth understanding of financial markets and wealth management. Since that time I have continued to learn more and stay abreast with financial news.
I have been an avid endurance athlete for 7 years. My area of expertise is in running, cycling, nutrition, weight loss, and injury prevention. In 2008, I became great friends with a group of very experienced elite runners. That friendship dramatically changed my lifestyle because it drove me to constantly learn, train, and compete with them. I also encountered injuries in that time, which taught me lessons in proper training regimen and injury care / prevention. From 2010 to 2011, I worked as a running specialist for a local triathlon store, which further enhanced my understanding of ideal running and cycling form, nutritional issues, and various injuries that customers sought advice on.
In 2009 that same store granted me membership on a sponsored running team for demonstrating competitiveness in events and being an encouraging role model for people who are seeking to improve their fitness level. It has been one of the most rewarding things in my life. When I see myself do well in a race or improve from a previous year, of course it feels great. But that feeling pales in comparison to the joy I get when I see someone change their lifestyle for the better because of something that I contributed.
I feel as though my experience with endurance sports has given me an opportunity to help others in a wide range of fitness topics.
I have been a semi-professional photographer for 8 years, and the owner of a small fine art photography and design company in Charlotte for 2 years. Throughout this time, I have developed a firm understanding of manual DSLR photography and techniques. It is important to not only know about photography itself, but to also be knowledgeable on related topics such as color management, software editing, photo organization, sharing, and digital file types, among others. My skill set is very well-rounded in this regard.
