I worked in the graphics arts and publishing industry (I have a BS degree in printing management) in different areas of production and management for 11 years prior to entering the teaching profession in 1987. I have 26 years of teaching experience with certifications in print graphics, marketing education, and T&I. I have endorsements in PLTW, Scientific and Technical Visualization and now Game Art and Design; I have taught courses in advertising, graphic design, drafting I and II, scientific and technical visualization, civil engineering and architecture and this year-game art and design.

I am experienced in traditional and electronic media; I have taught drawing and illustration courses in the past, worked as a freelance designer and have tutored students in 3d modeling an animation. I have written curriculum for programs in career and technical education. I enjoy painting when I have time. I have experience in 2d drawing and painting software and 3d modeling and animation software.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I have taught Adobe Illustrator since the 90's and its use in design, presentations, conceptual visualization, product design and as a 2D art tool for integration into other software programs.

Adobe InDesign

I use Adobe InDesign CS3 (and now CS6) in my classes for graphics and technical presentations. I use it primarily as a layout and design program in which I teach students how layout and design is used in the advertising and graphic design fields.

Adobe Photoshop

I have taught Photoshop in my design and visualization courses close to 20 years. I teach various imaging techniques that are applied to different forms of electronic media.
I have taught it as an art tool as well as a digital tool that can be applied to many types of visualization problems.

Drawing

I am certified in Advertising Illustration.
I have worked as a freelance designer.
I have taught traditional drawing and painting classes to students and adults.
I have 26 years of teaching experience in program areas that have provided visual training in sketching, illustration, design, 3D modeling and animation.

Maya

I taught Maya 3 years ago (2 years after school) per the request of a parent wanting to help her daughter learn 3D modeling. I purchased an education version at that time. I currently use 3D Max 11 (I teach it in my high school curriculum) and Lighthwave 9.6 which have similar user interfaces to Maya. I have Maya 8 which is basically the same as the newer versions with the exceptions of the ribbons which Autodesk is using for their software. I have been working in 3D modeling and animation since the mid 90's and I can use most 3D modeling and animation programs with some time to learn the program features, hot keys and interface.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I teach PPT in the classroom for the purpose of producing extemporaneous technical presentations in my visualization courses.
I have also used it to teach students how they can make simple games that demonstrate the fundamental gaming principles in Game Art and Design.

Painting

I have been a traditional artist and painter for 30 years. I work primarily in oils but I can use most mediums.
I have been a teacher and a mentor for students that have an interest to develop their artistic talent.
At the present, I paint as a hobby (when I have time).
