I offer one-on-one personalized tutoring services in a variety of subjects for junior high, high school, college, and adult students throughout South Charlotte and neighboring locales.
I'm a licensed physical therapist with a Master of Science degree from the University of Connecticut. My career path required extensive academic and intellectual training in biology, anatomy, physiology, mathematics, and writing. I excelled during my years at UConn, achieving a GPA over 3.9 on a four-point scale. I was also Salutatorian of my high school's graduating Class of 1996. I am a member of Mensa, a reputable society of high-IQ individuals. My experience includes providing academic tutoring services to NCAA Division-I athletes.
Unlike many high-IQ individuals, who tend to be highly-introverted, I have a zeal and penchant for teaching. Many people are aware of the fact that "being smart", by itself, doesn't make one a quality teacher or tutor. Finding a tutor who is both an exceptional learner AND exceptional teacher is a rarity, and that's exactly what I bring to the table.
When you hire a tutor, it is my opinion that you should seek one who approaches academics from a different angle... something different from the standard instruction that students typically receive in a classroom setting. My teaching philosophy is different from, but complementary to, traditional school teachers' philosophy. While I do include content instruction to students, I also strive to focus on laying the foundation for quality study habits and work ethic, and then help each student to build his/her tower of knowledge upon said foundation. In other words, while I can help a student "cram" for a specific test or topic material, I'm also adept at fostering a desire for learning. I believe the latter is far more important and useful than the former, and I encourage each student to seek a path of life-long learning.
I pride myself on being able to connect with all ages, levels, and types of students. Some students need to increase their knowledge base. Some students need to improve study habits. Some students need to improve their organizational skills. Some students need to improve test-taking skills. Some students need help with all of the above! Each of these potential "problem areas" deserves the tutor's attention, and when you work with me, I absolutely will assess all of these, and conduct your tutoring sessions with a focus on your greatest need or needs.
Whether you or your child is an overachiever seeking more challenge, or an underachiever needing assistance with studies, I can be your guide to academic success.
Thank you for reading, and I look forward to meeting you soon!
-- ** UPDATE 4/14/14 ** --
I have just a handful of immediate openings on my tutoring schedule for new clients/students in April and May. I am also fielding inquiries for tutoring during the summer months at this time. June and July offer great opportunities for students to solidify academic material learned during the previous year that will be necessary to remember and utilize during the upcoming year. This is especially crucial for mathematics courses. The summer months also offer the student time to focus on standardized test preparation, such as the SAT and ACT exams, among others.
