As a tutor, as well as a university professor, I emphasize mastering the fundamentals of a subject. That's the requisite for success!

Four recent successes: (1) a high school senior who improved her score on the SAT Writing test by almost 100 points; (2) a college freshman who raised his grade in pre-calc from a D (4 weeks into the semester) to a B+ (final semester grade); (3) a college senior who raised his score on the GRE Math test from a 138 to a 148; and (4) a high school junior who raised her grade in algebra/trig from a D (mid-semester) to a B+ (final semester grade).

Note that I split my time each week between Charlotte and Boone: I'm happy to schedule tutoring sessions with students in Boone, Blowing Rock, Lenoir, Hickory, Newton, Lincolnton, Gastonia, Huntersville, and Charlotte.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Architecture

I have a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard GSD (1983).
I am a licensed architect in California.
I am currently a tenured faculty member at Appalachian State University teaching architecture courses and have more than 20 years of experience teaching architecture courses at colleges and universities.

Revit

I'm an experienced Revit user, a registered architect, and---for the last two semesters---have taught a course in Revit for beginning and intermediate users at a local university. Introductory topics covered in the tutoring sessions include an introduction to constructing building models in Revit, the construction of terrain models, dimensioning, and adding annotations. Advanced topics include producing door and window schedules, renderings, and the development of a simple set of construction drawings.
