Please contact me for your Special-Needs child- I know they are brilliant!

Since 1999
I have been tutoring students in almost all subjects and grade levels in private and public schools and environments. I am a mom and understand how to efficiently provide and employ different teaching styles until I find the ones that work best for a particular student. I enjoy working with individual students and always use positive, healthy, encouragement and reinforcement to reach our learning goals.
I also believe that the right food can be used as fuel for learning. I always provide a light-study time snack to refuel your child's body before study time.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

Disorganization, lack of focus and defiance-isn’t rudeness. I know that. What I may not know is if your child is on medication.

I tutor from a firm but fair technique to help keep an ADHD student on track. Once I get to know your student, we’ll have a better sense for which they are, and they will sense that.

I’m capable, kind and interested in helping them. For me to tutor your child you will have to commit to a series of sessions. This time will be used for helping him/her physically organize for school. (School work computer files and loose papers) This will help them remember where things are.
It will also benefit your child by holding them accountable for tasks uncompleted or poorly done, yet again building boundaries.

Elementary (K-6th)

2005- 2007 Homeschooled my daughters. When they returned to CMS public school, both were
promoted up an entire grade level.
2006- Welcomed neighborhood children to home for EOG study sessions
2007- Passed NC Criminal background check
Passed CMS Special Educational Services Certification
Began tutoring at elementary and middle schools afterschool for local tutoring agency
2008- NC Health Department "SuperMom" of the Year
2009- Promoted to train instructors on classroom management and various instruction styles

Fitness

I will exercise with your child. Obesity is claiming too many of our kids. Let me create play-dates that include exercising. You don't have to do it, I can. I have 6 kids, so I know how to make fitness fun!

Phonics

2000- Phonic And Whole Word Approaches
The key for reading success is the child's "phonemic awareness".
Assists children in helping them identify sounds within words, and match the letters which create those sounds. When a child experiences difficulty, it is generally the case that the child has a low "phonemic awareness".

Special Needs

1999- The Quantum Training and Learning Centre certification for Intelligent Minds
2000- Technology Intergration Course
2007-2009 Charlotte Mecklenburg Fruits and Vegetable Coalition
2009- The American Association on Mental Deficiency Workshop

Study Skills

2008-Success4Students Certificate of Merit
Program presents a fabulous step-by-step procedure for time management and development of study skills for students.

***I am also certified to coach parents on the 8 Strategies for Parents to Help Children Improve in School**

Tax Preparation

I am consulting people how to save money and prepare their return on line using the numerous software available. So you get a professional to hold your hand, while you do your own taxes.

The most common myth that I am regularly addressing at fairs, on the phone, and in emails, is that someone’s student is behind. I often diffuse this by asking what the scripture reference is that determines what age a student must be to take Algebra 1 or Geometry or begin studying fractions. Is it in 1st Hezekiah or 2nd Assumptions? There is often a pause, then a light begins to dawn,... read more

Many students claim to be just bad test takers. No matter how much they study or how well they understand the information, when it comes to taking the test, they can’t perform. Well, rest-assure that the problem probably isn’t that the student is a “bad” test taker, but that they let stress get the better of them. In 9 out of 10 students, inability to perform on tests is caused by stress and... read more

"For a nation that proudly declared it would leave no child behind, America continues to do so at alarming rates." Wow- if that statement alone doesn’t make you scratch your head and get to thinking. Click the red “x” on my page now! I know that every parent isn’t able to pay for private education. If so, I would be out of a job. But in spite of all that, you can still help pull... read more
