I'm a friendly person, I play and coach basketball in my free time.

Currently, I'm a doctoral graduate student in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (i.e Biology/Genetics/Statistics/Computer Science) at UNC Chapel Hill.

I've been a teaching assistant (TA) for graduate level courses and worked coaching girls basketball for ages 7-11 and high school students.

Since beginning my career as a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill I have excelled both academically and throughout my various research experiences. I participated and help planned a bioinformatics workshop where I was on a panel sharing my research interests and answering questions about applying to graduate school. Also, I designed a bioinformatics jeopardy session for the students that demonstrated how bioinformatics is used in various careers and disciplines. Not only do I have a strong passion for research, but I also enjoy introducing and educating other students into the relatively new field of bioinformatics.

Testimonials

"Very patient."

Basketball

In high school, I won the MD State 4A girls basketball championship my senior year (2005). During my senior year I was the team's varsity captain. I received various basketball offers for college but decided on taking an academic scholarship offer. During graduate school I participated in numerous intramural basketball competitions and have own the tournament numerous time. My latest win for the 3vs3 games was summer 2013 and for the 5vs5 games was fall 2012.

Furthermore, I've coached basketball for 2 seasons at a city's parks and recreation department. Last season, as the head coach for a 11-12 year old girls team (Team Liberty), we won the regular season and playoff championships.

Genetics

I received a full academic scholarship to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). I finished UMBC in 4 years with a bachelors of science degree In bioinformatics and computational biology. I was accepted into numerous doctoral graduate school programs including: the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Georgetown University, Duke University and George Washington University.

Currently, I have finished my 4th year of graduate school. I have reached the level of "All But Defended" in my doctoral program and aim to finish up and receive my PhD in the next year or so. My current thesis work is on breast cancer development and treatment which keeps me up to date on numerous aspects of genetics and genetics research. As a bioinformatics student I successfully passed numerous genetics courses and requirements.

I've been a teacher's assistant for various biology-related courses. I take pride in being able to easily explain techniques and concepts by using down to earth analogies.
