Whatever course in Math and Science (Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology and Anatomy) you need help with, my long professional experience in the subject will help you reach your goals. From high school to college studies, I am also specialized in preparing specific subjects such as Honors and AP programs, and students and adults who wish to pursue a career in the medical field (MD, Nursing, PA, Dental, Physical Therapy...etc).

Do not hesitate to contact me, I will be glad to assist you.

Here is a bit of my biography. Talk to you soon!

After a master's degree in Mathematics and Biochemistry, I was awarded two competitive national fellowships to teach for 4 years in a European university and study for a PhD in Biology and Biochemistry. After graduating with highest distinction, I took a position as a Postdoctoral fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill, where I undertook a 5-year research project in Biology and Biochemistry, which received a U.S. federal grant from the National Institutes of Health. I was then promoted to Research Assistant Professor, continued to teach Biology and Biochemistry at UNC for 4 years, and was the award winner of a year-round in-house oral presentation research contest in my Department.

I have experience in Scientific Writing, having published a dozen peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals, and as Scientific Reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF) grant proposal evaluation process in the Molecular and Cellular Biosciences Division, and for Plant Cell, Plant Journal, Journal of Plant Physiology, Current Opinion in Plant Biology, Federation of European Biochemical Societies, Medical Science Monitor (2005-2010).

I also supervised and trained undergraduates at UNC in all the steps from thinking and building a scientific project around various scientific disciplines (Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Life Sciences), to obtaining and interpreting preliminary data and writing a successful competitive fellowship application. Under my mentoring, one of my research students was awarded two distinguished prizes: a Research Fellowship Program from the “Pfizer Global Research & Development Award”, and the “J.N. Couch Award for Excellence in Biology” at UNC-Chapel Hill. I was also a researcher in the biotechnology industry, in the Research Triangle Park, with a competitive fellowship from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

I teach elementary, high school, college students and adults who would like to take classes in Math, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology and Anatomy for exam preparation, or for the purpose of filling a particular gap in the curriculum, acquiring more education and developing reasoning skills.

Having been a scientist for many years, learning to pay attention to detail, passing numerous exams all the way up to a PhD program, and obtaining several scholarships, fellowships and grants, I am extremely well prepared to guide you through the difficulties of understanding and reasoning you may face during your exam preparation, or grant applications.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biochemistry

With an MS and a PhD, and more than 15 years of experience in research and teaching in Biochemistry, I am very well trained in the field to guide you through all the difficulties you may have, and prepare you efficiently for your exams. I can help you succeed, whether you are a medical or science student or a professional.

I have published a dozen scientific publications in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and can also help you with your reading and writing of scientific documents.

Biology

With an MS and a PhD in Biology, and more than a dozen international scientific publications in the field, I am very well prepared to train you in any Biology subjects. Whether you need help with Honors or AP Biology, or would like to get into a medical program (MD, Pharmacy, Dental, Nursing...etc.), I will provide you with the tools necessary to be successful.

I am looking forward to working with you.

Botany

As an accomplished plant biologist with 15 years of research in the field, I acquired experience both in academia and the biotechnology industry. I have been involved in and led a broad variety of research projects aimed at improving plant yield and biomass. The techniques used encompass genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology.

I published a dozen peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals dedicated to plants.

I was a scientific reviewer for international scientific publications such as Plant Cell, Plant Journal, Journal of Plant Physiology and Current Opinion in Plant Biology.

I am therefore very well qualified to do tutoring on any aspects of plant biology, including botany.

Chemistry

In order to obtain a PhD in Biochemistry, I had to study Chemistry in depth in college, and I am very well prepared to help you go through those concepts. I tutor in Chemistry at High School to College level, by also providing my students guidelines on how to study Chemistry. If you struggle with the subject, or want to reinforce some aspects of it, I can prepare you for your tests and final exams. If you intend to apply for medical related schools (MD, Nursing, PA, Dental, Chiropractic...etc) I can also help you reach your goals.

Organic Chemistry

Why can I help you understand all the numerous concepts that you would need to master during your Organic Chemistry classes, from high school to college ? Because Organic Chemistry is the foundation to then study Biochemistry. The two main topics in Organic Chemistry are hydrocarbon molecules and the functional groups that give chemical activity to those molecules. Natural molecules are made of hydrocarbon and functional groups which are then studied in Biochemistry. In order to obtain a PhD in Biochemistry, studying Organic Chemistry in college was a must. I can assist you in providing guidelines on how to study the concepts, and how to efficiently apply them to your tests and exams. I can also prepare you if you would like to apply for medical related schools (MD, Nursing, PA, Dental, Chiropractic...etc).

Pharmacology

I have taught Pharmacology to college students in preparation for Health Care careers (MD, Nursing, PA, Dental, Physical Therapy, etc). My students graduated with an average grade of 98. Pharmacology is a complex subject that encompasses Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry and Regulations. During my Pharmacology classes, I have taught: Introduction to Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics and Factors of Individual Variation, Math Review and Dosage Calculations, the Autonomic Nervous System, Drugs affecting the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous System, the Central Nervous System and Pharmacology, Antipsychotic and Anti-anxiety Drugs, Opioid and Non-opioid Analgesics, Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatories and Anti-gout Drugs, Cardiac Physiology and Pathology, Treatment of Heart Failure, Anti-arrhythmic Drugs, Diuretics, Antihistaminic Drugs and Mast Cell Release Inhibitors, Respiratory Pharmacology, Treatment of Asthma, and COPD, Antibacterial Agents, Antifungal and Antiviral Drugs, Sedative-Hypnotic Drugs and Alcohol, Antiepileptic Drugs, Antidepressants Psychomotor Stimulants, and Lithium, Endocrine System, Antineoplastic Agents, Pancreatic Hormones and Anti-diabetic Drugs.

Great at Explaining Chemistry! — Dr. Patrick is very good at explaining concepts in a way that students understand. My 15 year old daughter had several tutoring sessions with Dr. Patrick. She enjoyed all of them, and came out of each one feeling like she really understood what they covered in the session. The activities they did in each session were very helpful and the homework packets were right on target with what she needed. ...
