I am a graduate of the University of Maryland, with a B.S. in Mathematics and M. Eng. in Systems Engineering. With over 10 years' experience tutoring and 5 years' teaching at the middle school, high school, and community college levels, I have learned that teaching is more than just delivery of information. I believe that educators must instill confidence in their students, for they will only be successful when they believe it is possible. I also believe that most students struggle with advanced concepts in mathematics, not because they are incapable of understanding, but because somewhere along the way, they missed some fundamental concepts, resulting in a flawed foundation. Without a strong foundation, students struggle to build upon previous knowledge, resulting in a lack of understanding and frustration. Taking the time to repair the foundation is always the first step towards not only addressing the challenge at hand, but preparing students to navigate the challenges yet to come.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Discrete Math

While my academic career did not include a formal course in "discrete math," much of the coursework for my bachelor's in mathematics repeatedly covered the concepts of sets, logic, induction, functions, relations, sequences, recursion, combinatorics, graphs and trees, and matrices.

Help without Judgment — My daughter has always struggled with Math. Eighth grade algebra is no different. Sara has identified some of the foundation pieces where she is rusty. During their hour session, Sara offers her practice pages in those areas along with tutoring on the weekly lessons. Her math grade has improved by one letter grade; this would not be possible if she was not comfortable with Sara. She tells me ...
