I have twenty years' experience teaching English in every environment and with every kind of student imaginable. I have taught in a village school in Jamaica, UNC-Asheville, North Buncombe High School, the Juvenile Evaluation Center and at Christ School, a preparatory boarding school in Asheville. My teaching style is experiential as I believe every student has the capacity to connect with literature and to write very well, and I enjoy showing a student how he or she does this naturally. I believe in finding the moment of engagement with a work of literature or a writing assignment and working from there.
In SAT and ACT preparation, I enjoy sharing the strategies not only for vocabulary mastery and answer selection but also for mental preparation for the testing environment.
My experience includes working with students with learing disabilities and learning style differences. I believe in the seven kinds of intelligence and have never met a student I couldn't teach to love literature.
