I am a certified teacher with current licenses in the states of Oregon, California and Montana. My professional teaching experience began the school year of 2007 when I taught Middle School Social Studies, Pre-Algebra & Language Arts at a school in Corvallis Oregon that integrated Science into all subject matter. I then moved to California in the summer of 2008 and began teaching at El Verano School as the Core Replacement teacher until June 2011. There I instructed 4th and 5th grade students who were two or more years behind in Language Arts and/or Mathematics. Both schools that I taught at had a high percentage of English Language Learners. My current education position is that of a mommy to two little ones!
My own personal educational background consists of a BA in Education with an emphasis in mathematics from Western Oregon University, and a MA in Reading and Language Arts from Sonoma State University.
As an educator I take a holistic view on teaching where I highly value the relationships I build with my students. Each person is a unique individual and has a learning style that is all their own. As I get to know my students I develop a better understanding of how they learn and see the world, which enables me to deliver instruction that is specific to their learning style. We live in a world where everything is interconnected, thus I believe that our subject matter should be as well. I strive to constantly relate content back to students personal lives to make connections that will foster comprehension and retention.
