I am a native Spanish speaker from Panama. I have over 12 years of experience working with students as a tutor/mentor and have over 8 years experience as a Spanish Instructor. I have excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills and have the ability to teach Spanish in an innovative and creative manner to help all students learn. I use many teaching strategies and manipulatives to help students grasp writing and speaking skills in the target language. Throughout my undergraduate studies I worked as a bilingual mentor for the English as a Second Language Department and helped students in elementary/middle school enhance their English speaking and writing skills for core classes (English, Writing, Social Studies, etc.). I also served under the same position teaching Spanish to middle school aged students and as a high school Spanish teacher, in which I taught upper level Spanish students. I've taught professionals in the business field conversational Spanish strategies to function in a progressive work environment (both one-on-one sessions to groups of 4 students). Currently, I work alongside first year Spanish immersion teachers to enhance their teaching practices as they develop language proficiency in students in a fully immersed environment. As you see, potential parents and students, I have the experience and patience to work with students of all ages. I do hope you consider me helping you enhance your Spanish language abilities.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

Hello possible students,

I have invaluable experience teaching ESL to school aged students and adults. I am fluent in both Spanish and English. I am currently in graduate school finalizing my certification to teach English as a Second Language.

Throughout my undergraduate studies I taught English to school-aged students for the public school system in Memphis, TN. I also helped adults attain language proficiency or enhanced their current English language skills by teaching at a multilingual service company. Through the multilingual services company, I was connected to various businesses and corporations and instructed/conducted lessons for small groups (up to 5 persons) in the target language, to help the non-English speaking natives practice skills within the language; for instance, skills for language acquisition such as, pronunciation skills, writing skills, etc. in order to help the learners become comfortable using the language. I used various techniques, such as hands-on manipulatives, mnemonic devices, repetition, read-alouds, etc. to help students meet their language learning skills.

I do hope you consider my tutoring and language experience in your decision.

Best regards,
Talia
