I have tutored both Mathematics and Science (as well as Computer Science) at various levels, from Middle School subjects all the way to both undergraduate and graduate collegiate mathematics courses. Being a research mathematician and scientist at a large national research laboratory, I specialize in helping good students become great at problem solving and analytical thinking, which in turn translates to increased levels of self-confidence in other subjects, as well.
In general, I favor a "hands-on" approach to teaching that involves a lot of interaction between the tutor and student, and providing meaningful examples in addition to home assignments. However, my specific methods vary according to the subject being taught and the learning style and needs of the student.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Master's degree in Applied Mathematics and Ph.D in Mathematical Sciences.
In Mathematics, I can tutor all Middle/High School Math subjects (Algebra I/II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, etc.) as well as most collegiate math courses (Calculus I/II/III, Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, Linear Algebra, Real and Complex Analysis etc.). In addition, I can tutor basic Physics courses (Mechanics & Dynamics, Electromagnetics, Linear and Nonlinear Wave Theory, Fluid Mechanics etc.). I can also help with general computer science and programming courses, such as those in: C/C++, Fortran, Python, MATLAB, Mathematica.
In addition to one-on-one tutoring, I'm happy to work with larger groups of students as I've taught at a collegiate level for several years. Being an educator and a youth soccer coach, I have a lot of experience in working with kids of all ages and I'm sensitive to their needs and intrinsic cognitive limitations. I'm passionate about sharing my knowledge and helping our youth gain better understanding and appreciation of math and science.

Matt is a great tutor, respectful of my daughter's needs and not making her feel like a failure when she didn't know something. He worked with us to set up a plan for reaching our goal, and was sensitive to our needs related to times and dates for tutoring sessions. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a good tutor who is also sensitive to the student's needs.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
