I am a certified Speech and English teacher in the state of Missouri. I have taught in a variety of schools and have been a substitute teacher in an even wider variety of classrooms and age levels. I am also an ordained minister and have pastored three churches. Teaching is an important part of my ministry, and I usually enjoy substituting still.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

Bible Studies may include Old and New Testament histories, a study of literary styles (e.g., poetry, apocalyptic, and narrative), and a study of major doctrinal issues. I have previous undergraduate and graduate education in Bible Studies, and I am an experienced Bible teacher with 4 years experience in Christian Schools and 23 years teaching Bible in Teen and adult classes with 20 years ministry as Associate Pastor or Pastor.

Elementary (K-6th)

The Elementary subject is foundational study in a wide variety of academic areas. This course builds primary knowledge and cognitive skills that lay the basis for continued academic growth. I have taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades (1 year), and I have been a substitute in all elementary grades several times.

English

Former High School and Middle School English teacher.
Several years of experience substitute teaching.
Several years of experience teaching in other subject areas.

Microsoft Publisher

I have used Microsoft Publisher for at least 10 years. This software is a popular desktop publishing program that allows users to design a wide variety of publications. Templates are available for users or page layouts may be designed from scratch. Documents that I have created include business cards, greeting cards, bulletins, brochures, small signs and newsletters.

Phonics

Phonics is a method of teaching reading and spelling skills by helping students recognize the various vowel and consonant sounds and blends. The skills learned should enable students to learn to sound out the pronunciation of new words as they are encountered and spell words already in their oral vocabulary. I have used an excellent phonics program in teaching 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders for a full school year.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking seeks to develop skills of enunciation and poise in delivery of a prepared speech. Organizational and writing skills will also be developed as the student learns to prepare and deliver a variety of types of speeches. I have B.S. in Education with a major in Speech Education. Also, I have experience teaching Speech, and, as a pastor, I have a good amount of experience as a public speaker.

Reading

I have taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. I have, also, taught several years of English from Middle school through High School. My college experience includes a course in Methods of Teaching Reading.
