I have been in community theatre many years and currently teach at a modeling school. My specialty there is in acting, public speaking, voice control, reading, doing commercials, and pronouncing properly. I also have sung many solos, harmonize, and can read music. I also am an acrylic artist painter, and have won several awards and cash prizes in this area. I can sometimes teach shy people to become better at public speaking, as well as non-singers and non-actors to enjoy singing and acting.
Although I am not a licensed teacher, I individualize my teaching to each student and work with their interests and use their strengths to tackle minor weaknesses. I have 4 years' experience in social work, and can work with special needs children, but may not have the proper materials that a teacher might have. However, with the proper materials, I think I can teach almost any student and make any student a little smarter or more knowledgeable.
My parents are elderly and I would be willing to work with older adults also with dementia issues. I would be patient with all my students. I do not have the resources that a teacher might already have. I can help with vocabulary, helping students memorize or learn grammar and basic math skills. I have a variety of interests myself. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a master fitness instructor in the army and took a special class to learn about how to use weights and exercises in order to improve one's overall fitness. I also took a fitness class at First Baptist Church of Arnold where we did running drills, balancing drills, boxing drills, and certain exercises that increased strength, flexibility, and dexterity. I often use aerobic exercises for weight control and stress water drinking, breathing, and building intensity. We strive for maximum optimum heart rate, yet at a pace comfortable for the student.
I had several years of Speech in High School and competed with my speeches. I did oral interpretation and read literature. I was in several toastmaster clubs where we learned to encourage each other to be effective and to the point. I was a judge at Clayton High School. I currently teach public speaking and acting at Barbizon Modeling School. I use voice control to teach projection and other subjects to help students use their emotions and feelings to improve their speech. I have learned many secrets through the years.
I currently sight read at my church choir, Webster Hills United Methodist Church in Webster Groves. I have sung in numerous choirs, was a music major at the University of Michigan, sang solos in high school, and had leads in musicals while participating in community theatre here in St. Louis for many years. I consider myself a good singer and teach voice and public speaking at Barbizon Modeling Agency. I have taken voice lessons and can show some of the roles I have played.
