My name is Kevin, and I grew up and live in St. Louis. I have a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as well as a Master's degree in aerospace engineering from St. Louis University. My education helped develop my passion and knowledge for math and science.

I'm familiar with many subjects of math, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and differential equations. I also am experienced in physics and chemistry.

I have several years of experience tutoring math to students of all ages (grade school through college level). I've learned that the best way to really understand a topic is get the concept first, then work through examples. I know that math can be very frustrating and confusing. I am patient and encourage a stress free learning environment. I also know that every student is different, so I will adjust my teaching style to meet your needs.

I am flexible if you'd like to meet at a public place or at your home, whatever you'd prefer.

While I love math and science, it is even more rewarding when I can help a student break through and succeed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I'm very familiar with all levels of high school math and more specifically, the type of questions that will be on the ACT or SAT. Also, we can go over successful strategies for attacking the math section and to maximize your score.

Algebra 1

I'm very familiar with the topics of Algebra I and how to do typical problems on algebra exams. We would cover topics such as: variables, exponents, functions, algebraic properties, linear equations, factoring, rates, and pythagorean theorem. I'm very patient and will work hard to make sure the student learns and succeeds.

Algebra 2

I'm very familiar with the topics of Algebra II and how to do typical problems on algebra exams. We would cover topics such as: Equations and inequalties, linear functions, solving systems of equations, quadratic functions, polynomials, radicals, exponents and logarithms, etc.

Calculus

I am very experienced and knowledgeable in calculus (I, II and III). I understand the concepts and theory as well as how to do most types of problems you will see on exams.

I can help with topics such as: limits, derivatives and applications, integrals and applications, series, parametric and polar functions, and multivariable calculus. I understand that calculus can be very confusing, so I am very patient and work to make sure the student understands in a stress-free environment.

Chemistry

I have bachelor's and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Not only did I study a full year of Chemistry, but the concepts were applied in many of my other engineering courses such as Materials Science. I have also used these concepts in various points throughout my career.

Differential Equations

I have a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a Master's degree in aerospace and mechanical engineering. Not only did I take and do well in a Differential Equations course, but I have used differential equations for many applications in numerous subsequent courses and projects. I am familiar with the typical topics covered such as first and second order differential equations, homogeneous and nonhomogenous equations, Laplace transforms, slope fields and Fourier Series. I even have some experience with partial differential equations and where they apply in the real world.

Elementary Math

Elementary and middle school math is the foundation for all future math (and science) classes. I take helping younger students very seriously. I understand the basic concepts of elementary math, but more importantly, from my tutoring experience, I know how to communicate and get the point across when a student is confused. I really enjoy seeing a student improve and succeed and lay the groundwork for success in the future.

Geometry

I'm very experienced and knowledgeable about geometry. I can help with topics such as formal proofs, deductive reasoning, problems with triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, etc.

Microsoft Excel

I have many years working with Word and Excel in my engineering education as well as in my career. Word is a powerful tool with many options that can make a document stand out but look professional. There are many features of Excel that can help you make helpful, organized spreadsheets that allows you to present a lot of information and make it easy to follow. I hope I can help and look forward to hearing from you!

Physics

I have multiple engineering degrees. I studied 3 semesters worth of Physics. I have also applied those concepts in many of my other engineering courses such as Mechanics of Materials and Fluid Mechanics. I have also used these concepts during my career.

Prealgebra

I'm very familiar with the topics of Prealgebra and how to prepare for exams. We would cover topics such as: variables, lines, algebraic properties, linear equations and working with different forms of numbers (fractions, percents, ratios, proportions, etc). I'm very patient and will work hard to make sure the student learns and succeeds.

SAT Math

I have a lot of experience tutoring high school math but I also know typical questions that will be on the SAT. Also, there are strategies we can use to use your limited test time efficiently.

Trigonometry

I am very familiar with the concepts of trigonometry such as the the unit circle, applications of trigonometric functions and graphs of trig functions. I have years of experience tutoring math and know how to explain concepts in several different ways to help the student understand.

Speed is the magnitude of the velocity function so first we need to find v(t) = r ' (t) r ' (t) = 3e^3t i - 3e^-3t j + (3te^3t + e^3t)k so v(0) = r ' (0) = 3e^0 i -  3^0 j + (3*0e^0 + 3^0)k = 3i - 3j + k so then magnitude of velocity at t = 0 is sqrt(3^2...

so if acceleration is a(t) = ti + j + tk velocity is the antiderivative of acceleration, so we just do antiderivative of each term of acceleration a(t) = ti+j+tk v(t) = (1/2t^2+C1)i + (t+C2)j + (1/2t^2+C3)k, where C1, C2, and C3 are the three components...
