I understand that tutoring is as much a human interaction as it is an exchange of knowledge. I know that students learn best with a tutor who makes them feel comfortable, recognizes their individual needs and encourages them to do their best. Someone who can read a student’s emotions and knows when to push and when to back off.

I am Professional Engineer licensed in Missouri and Illinois and I know how important it is for a student to learn material but also how important it is to teach a person how to think. These skills can be applied to all subjects a student is learning – not just the one I am helping them with. In addition these are skills that students can take with them as they continue their education and ultimately enter the work force.

With over 35 years of experience as an engineer I can provide examples of how math and other subjects are used in the real world. This can serve as a great motivational tool for students who don’t see the point in learning certain subjects. I explain concepts in many different ways because certain methods may work for one individual while a different method will work for someone else.

I know that students who succeed do well because they understand fundamental concepts of a subject rather than by using rote memorization. Therefore I encourage my students to focus on learning underlying concepts rather than just on grades and test scores. Good grades will come naturally when a student is confident and comfortable with a subject.

I work in St. Louis but live in Illinois and therefore I’m available to tutor on both sides of the river. I am available for tutoring on the weekends or after 5:00 pm on Mondays through Friday.

During my first session we will verify that your child and I are a good match. We will also discuss the best strategy to help your student reach their full potential.

I look forward to working with your child!

ASVAB

For those individuals who are serious about joining the military you need be serious about the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). The ASVAB is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors in your military career.

The test consists of 8 sections. The scores in four areas are critical - Arithmetic Reasoning(AR), Word Knowledge(WK), Paragraph Comprehension(PC) and Mathematics Knowledge(MK). These sections count towards your Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) score. The AFQT score is important as each service determines the minimum AFQT score needed to enlist in their service.

In addition, your scores on the other ASVAB composite tests will determine your career field or military occupation eligibility. Since enlistment bonuses are usually tied to your choice of occupations, the better the score, the more opportunities you have.

Scoring high on the ASVAB will require study and concentration. I am a registered Professional Engineer in Missouri and Illinois and use mathematics every day. I am certified by WyzAnt in math and reading and I will be a tremendous help in assisting you as you prepare for the test and will provide tips you can use to make your studying more effective.

I will provide strategies you can use while taking the actual test. For instance your test score is based on the number of items you have answered correctly in the allotted time; you are not penalized for wrong answers. Thus a blank answer is always wrong but if you take a guess at least you have a chance of getting the question right.

It's your future. I want to assist you in getting the most out of it. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Note: there will be no charge for our 1st session in order that we can determine that we are a good fit for each other.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified substitute teacher. I am a certified math and reading tutor with WyzAnt. I have worked with classes from pre-K through 8th grade. I have worked for over 35 years as a professional engineer and use mathematics every day. More importantly I understand that tutoring is as much a human interaction as it is an exchange of knowledge. This is especially important with the students I work with because they are the ones who struggle the most. These children learn best with a tutor who makes them feel comfortable, recognizes their individual needs and encourages them to do their best. Someone who can read a student’s emotions and knows when to push and when to back off. I look forward to working your child!
