Gemma is a working Registered Nurse with Bachelor's degrees in both psychology and nursing who has been tutoring students of all ages since 2009. Here are more details on the subjects Gemma tutors:

*MATH: Gemma understands that not all subjects come easily to everyone and she is thrilled to be able to help students achieve their full potential in elementary math, prealgebra, algebra 1. She has helped many students make clear advances in their understanding of these topics - in fact, most students were surprised to find how much they enjoyed math after working with Gemma - she loves math and it proud of it!

*NURSING / MED MATH: As a Registered nurse and math-lover, Gemma is passionate about helping nursing students who are struggling with med math. She will guide nursing students to be able to "calculate with confidence"!

*MUSIC: Gemma is also an experienced choral singer and composer who is excited to help students reach their full potential in sight-singing. She was a member of the UCLA Chorale and Chamber singers as well as a women's A Cappella group at UCLA.

I look forward to hearing from you and discovering how I can help you reach your goals!

Sight Singing

I have been a choral singer for 10 years and have used solfeggio (do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do) for that whole time - with wonderful results. My training began as a middle schooler, where I perfected the solfeggio technique. From there, I sang in choirs at both Santa Monica College and at UCLA, where sight-singing was easy because of my sofegge background.

And I want to help students to do that also! I begin by teaching solfeggio, so that students can begin to hear the relationships between notes. From there, we move to labeling songs with solfeggio syllables and then singing them using solfeggio. At that point, students can begin to hear the relationships between the notes without actively using solfeggio and can begin to sight-sing like a pro.

He has been struggling with Algebra for two years now, and we have tried informal tutoring before this. With Gemma's help, he was engaged and focused, and clearly wanted to learn. He especially liked her patience with him and ability to explain points where he was stuck. He said that what the math t ...
