Hello Parents and/or Students!
Prior to applying to the MAT- Graduate Program at Webster University, I recently returned from beautiful Costa Rica where I was the Kindergarten teacher and Assistant Volleyball Coach at the American International School of Costa Rica. I feel so blessed that I was able to put my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education to use, and that I was able to attain my TESOL Certificate in such an amazing part of the world. I have had diverse experiences that have opened my mind to learning and to people in general. My professors at College of Charleston and Webster University regularly complimented me on my hard work, creativity, and passion when making lesson plans, and I would be happy to share a few of them with you!
My diverse experiences in teaching and education have provided me with the necessary skills associated with a tutoring position. Due to the economy and fierce competition with teaching jobs, last winter I accepted a position as a Client Care Specialist for a real estate team. While I am incredibly grateful to have gotten a job, with each day that passed, I realized more and more that I was not put on this planet to do anything but teach. Since then, I have completed my MAT (with an emphasis in Language Arts), and I am starting my own online business, all the while still searching for a teaching position.
As my philosophy will show you, I believe learners come first in all aspects. If the students’ basic personal, psychological and educational needs are not being met, I am not doing my job to the best of my ability. My constant striving to make learning fun and accessible for all students has helped me become proficient in creating engaging, hands-on, and differentiated lesson plans. Creativity and positive energy is the name of the game for me.
If I create a safe, energetic, exploratory learning environment in which students are taught how to think, not what to think, I have done my job!
