I have 20+ years teaching experience in public schools as a special education teacher, teaching children with different learning disabilities in 5th-12th grades. Currently, I am retired from teaching in a classroom but on occasion I substitute as a special education teacher. However, I also work part-time as an Early Interventionist/special instructor. This allows me an opportunity to continue teaching and encouraging children to learn. I have also enjoyed part-time/full-time work as a tutor for past few years. I am certified to teach and work with students who have special (needs) in reading, math, writing, grammar, social studies, test-taking skills and study skills.
This certified teacher uses teaching strategies and skills that fit the child's needs. For example, if an elementary or junior high student has difficulty comprehending and answering textbook, teacher, or test questions and often gets frustrated when she/he makes mistakes, this teacher applies teaching and tutoring methods to help the student become and remain successful. This teacher has been praised for her ability to motivate students to learn to read for comprehension and solve mathematical problems. Writing and reading is a skill this teacher thinks is most important to be successful. Computer skills also come easy for this teacher and she is up to date on these skills to meet the needs of students today. This teacher has always communicated with parents as well as students of all progress and concerns that each may have. My certified teaching experience stated below and degree status, as well as my part-time tutoring that I have done in the past three years in Atchison County, MO is also evidence of my proficient excellent teaching and tutoring experience.
My credentials include over 20 years of teaching in the following districts and locations: Tarkio Academy, Tarkio MO; Red Oak, Iowa School District, Enterprise School District, Enterprise, MS; East and West Kemper County School District, Kemper, MS; Heidelberg School District, Heidelberg, MS; and Northeast Lauderdale School District, Meridian, MS. These professional teaching experiences in the classroom have provided me opportunities to use teaching methods that study skills in the regular classroom (i.e. SQ3R), other reading and writing strategies that allots children to develop their reading and thinking skills while learning and problem solving. This teacher has also acquired the knowledge to work with the child that appears to have math difficulties, spelling difficulties, and general poor reading and study skills in grades 3-9.
Currently, in a semi-retired position this teacher is working with families that have toddlers with developmental delays and substituting whenever called upon in local districts in areas close to where this teacher resides. Finally, all of my teaching experience came about because of the education and training I received while earning a Masters then a Specialist in Special Education from Mississippi State University, and West Alabama University. After wards, this teacher has always taken courses and professional developmental classes and workshops to sharpen her skills as a teacher and not let her children suffer because of outdated teaching methods and strategies.
Thank you for choosing me to be your tutor.
Ms. Roberts
