I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, a minor in English, and am a classically trained piano teacher. I feel I am gifted at teaching.
I believe anyone can excel in math. Anyone! There are rules to math, and most students don't realize this and stumble around in the dark, guessing at how to solve math problems. That's where I come in. I give my students the rules and then reinforce the rules with exercises and problems. Once students know the rules and develop confidence in their problem-solving abilities, they can be very good at math.
As a tutor, my strongest gift is that I listen to my students and observe how they go about solving a problem. To know the student's reasoning processes and abilities is the key to opening up the world of mathematics for the student. I ask myself, "What is my student thinking? How is he or she going about solving this problem?" By paying attention, I can see where the misunderstandings lie and correct any false ideas. Once students know the correct procedures and rules, their own reasoning abilities improve.
It is my hope to show others that they can succeed in math; they do have the ability. And hopefully, this confidence will build in other areas of their lives.
I look forward to serving others and their families.
