How to teach is governed by the child and how they react to the stimulus being taught. Positive reinforcement should always be tried but on occasion, natural consequences do have to come into play. I believe in all of this for reaching the child with special needs.
Study Skills are taught directly although many environments mean for them to be absorbed by the student. To learn how to study, the student must first learn what is relevant to study to achieve the desired test scores.
Many times students have to learn memorization techniques, other times they must learn how to comprehend. Sometimes they have to learn to evaluate. Each of these areas must be taught to many students for them to learn how to study.
