I have an AAS in Business Management and won the Accounting I test for Colorado for all college students in 1987. I also worked for 8 years as the head bookkeeper for a small company. I am not certified in this area only because I have never pursued it.
I hold a current, valid teaching certificate for mild, moderate LD, BD, and MR, plus certified for a cross-categorical classroom in the state of Missouri.
I have worked with numerous students that have ADD/ADHD in the classroom. I have worked on calendar schedules and organizational skills for these students. Together, we developed structures that would help the student become more organized so they could keep up in school. We also developed self-help skills so the students would recognize they were off task and be able to bring themselves back to task and complete it.

Having taught grades K-4 for two years and helping to teach grades 5-6 in special education, I have dealt with all areas of education. For the most part, children in elementary school are learning the basics of all areas. They are learning how to learn. Teachers are there to guide their learning process. Tutors are there to further help this process of understanding.
Sometimes it is a matter of figuring out what it is the child missed during school time while their minds were engaged elsewhere. Sometimes it is a matter of learning to apply pure memorization skills in a fun way. Other times it is a problem that children do not understand what the teacher was saying because of interruptions during the normal day of teaching.
Tutoring can have the affect of allowing children to keep up with their school mates in the learning process and obtain a learning base that will support them through junior high and high school.
I have worked with the following operating systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista Premium. I know how to load and unload programs and set them up to working within all of the operating systems mentioned.
I operate both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox for internet access and know how to acclimate them both for optimum use.
I know how to adjust the computer for children with special needs both with and without special equipment.
I can tutor children in learning how to get the most out of their computer experience and use it as the tool it is meant to be.
I use Microsoft Outlook on a daily basis for my email(s). I can set the program up to run emails from free sites and paid sites. I know how to set up different folders to have different subjects/emails/senders/etc email directly to the folders.
I use the calendar on a daily basis and can set it up for present/future and past dates and notes to be able to cross reference them.
I know how to code the contact portion of the list to generate different types of address books as needed. I can set up task list, notes, etc within the program. I can attach emails to the calendar or task list as needed for future reference. Just about anything that Outlook can do I have done at one time or another.

I have a teaching certificate from the state of Missouri for Special Education in the following areas: Visual Impairment (blind), Learning Disabilities, Behavior Disorders, Mental Retardation and Cross Categorical (means I can teach a variety of students with all of these needs in one classroom). I have taught in public education for a total of 6 years.
I believe that all children can learn. The target is to find how they learn so you can teach to it. The next target is to identify the subject areas that are important to learn for the child to function appropriately in our society as an adult. How to teach is governed by the child and how they react to the stimulus being taught. Positive reinforcement should always be tried but on occasion, natural consequences do have to come into play. I believe in all of this for reaching the child with special needs.
Study Skills are taught directly although many environments mean for them to be absorbed by the student. To learn how to study, the student must first learn what is relevant to study to achieve the desired test scores.
Many times students have to learn memorization techniques, other times they must learn how to comprehend. Sometimes they have to learn to evaluate. Each of these areas must be taught to many students for them to learn how to study.
I am able to teach "How to Study" not just "what to memorize."
