I am a mother of five Catholic-educated children ranging from ages 3 to 18. I am an educator at heart and have extensive experience in working with youth from the beginning of my career teaching private and group swimming lessons, to being a camp counselor, to teaching middle school science at a Catholic school. My instructing experience includes teaching a college course at Columbia College. As a Youth Specialist for the University of Missouri, I led a variety of programs in communities, camps, and conferences, and understanding the principles of educational programming was at the core of all we did.

As the parent of a student with ADD, I understand the importance of extra instruction, particularly from someone besides a parent. We benefited ourselves from having others tutor our son. At the same time, we led our other children through multiple bible studies. I am looking forward to the opportunity to help your student. You will find me to be a friendly, caring, professional, and flexible individual your student will love!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I received my Bachelor's degree in Sociology/Anthropology from Truman State University in 1993.

Bible Studies

I participated in a weekly two hour bible study in the program called Bible Study Fellowship for 8 years. Our children are Catholic educated as am I from 1st-8th grade and we pray as a family every morning and read the Magnificat.

Microsoft Publisher

I have used Microsoft Publisher to create fliers and brochures for my job as a Youth Specialist with University Extension. I have also used it to create an informational flyer for a small farm business.

Microsoft Windows

I am highly proficient in Microsoft Windows, and have used it for years, using the entire suite of Microsoft Office products in my career and personal life. Additionally, my hobby is digital photography so have used a number of photography editing programs.

As a Youth Specialist for the University of Missouri Extension, I worked to improve youth computer literacy in the inner city, starting over a dozen youth computer labs. In this project, I trained youth educators to effectively use educational software with the youth they served, recommending particular titles depending on their student needs, and perhaps most importantly, training these educators to troubleshoot problems with the computers that would have otherwise kept them from utilizing the labs with the youth they served.

I am familiar with a wide range of software programs, particularly utilizing Excel, for example, for data analysis in a number of research projects for both University of Missouri Extension and in my position as a marketing projects manager at Flaspöhler Reyes. In addition, I am very familiar with a number of image editing programs, and taught digital photography series several times while with Extension.

Photography

My hobby is digital photography, and I have done projects for realtors to create gifts for their clients. I have thousands of my own photos, using a Canon Digital Rebel and long zoom lens. I am great at using editing software to edit pictures together or edit objects out of photos. I use quite a variety of photography editing programs for my own personal use. During my career as a Youth Specialist, I taught a week long digital photography workshop to teens at a leadership conference in St. Louis in collaboration with a colleague from Texas. I also taught a session on digital photography at the 2005 Children Youth and Families at Risk Conference in Boston, teaching youth workers how to use this medium with kids. I also taught a similar session in Columbia, Missouri.

Social Studies

I have both a bachelor's degree in Sociology/Anthropology and a Master's degree in Sociology.

I was an excellent student and always made As or Bs in every subject.

Sociology

I have both my Bachelor's and Master's in Sociology.
